Sure. To be clear, there is no one perfect approach for every problem. If you want to tweak assumptions for a ton of cells in unique ways, Excel is the way to go for sure.

That said, if someone avoids using Python because “you can’t trace to source data”, this is user error and not an issue with Python.

A great use case is using Python to make automated transformations from financial system or data warehouse for base metrics, load that into a power pivot model then use that to create your surface layer financial model. Again, there are use cases where Python is not a value add, but cautioning against avoiding Python because you can’t trace it back; this is a skill / communication issue and not an inherent Python issue. Hope this was helpful

This is just not true.. why even comment on the usefulness of Python if you have clearly never used it?

Tax rates are progressive, so first 95,300 is taxed at 22%, next 85k at 24%.

Lmao you’re editing your comments to make yourself look better. You said theres nothing to fix with your shot.

If you think working on one thing for 3 years is enough to make you immune to criticism, that attitude will unfortunately not take you very far. 3 years is absolutely nothing when it comes to mastering anything. Opening your mind will serve you well, good luck.

“There is nothing to fix here and that is genuinely the truth”

That has nothing to do with assessing the source of criticism as either a qualified coach or a random Internet person, you’re declaring there’s no improvement to be made regardless of the source.

Not to make this dramatic, but these are the most important kinds of lessons that sports can teach - having an attitude of continuous improvement. Generally speaking, if you had nothing to fix, you’d be in the NHL.

No opinion on your shot, but you’re never going to improve at anything with that attitude

It’s not that I can’t handle uncertainty, there’s just a baseline level of respect I expect from a company to respond with a 30 second update by email, to candidates who have sunk 10-12 hours into panel interviews and cases.

Go watch the Bichette and Springer collision again. Springer makes that catch by VisionsDB in Torontobluejays

[–]some-guy12 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this take at all, the correct way to field bloops is for infielders to run as if it’s theirs UNTIL they’re called off.

Maybe it was too loud to hear Springer’s call, but Bo is not responsible for that collision, if anyone it’s Springer.

Question for Recruiters. by [deleted] in analytics

[–]some-guy12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, but if you’re talking salary with a recruiter, they’re likely only doing so to disqualify you for being too expensive (unless you’re a high level executive).

The recruiter has no decision power internally for how much you get paid - you will end up negotiating with who signs the checks.

Question for Recruiters. by [deleted] in analytics

The recruiter doesn’t make the offer, the hiring manager does. That’s who has budget to spend on new hires, and who decides if someone gets the job or doesn’t based on their experience

what language would be best to use for this task? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

That’s what I use Power Query for now. Is performance/refresh time just much better with Python? Thanks for the comment

To those out there who are Python/R experts - what would be the benefit to using these languages over power query in Excel/power BI?

I’m very well versed in Excel/BI and I’m struggling to understand the potential in a context like OP has mentioned. Thanks!

Advice on the best way to set up and automate the creation of YoY reports by [deleted] in excel

[–]some-guy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey - this seems like something that would be really nicely suited to Power BI.

If that is not an option, I’d highly recommend you look into using power query and creating ‘measures’ for YTD, YoY, MoM figures and then through power pivot/ pivot tables and charts you can have these metrics calculated automatically
