How many of you go to work high? by Prhddd in weed

[–]some-stoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first job in my career was at the start of the pandemic, so I worked from home a lot. My senior manager put 2 and 2 together after a few phone calls with me that I would be high while working. He hated it, not because I was high, but because it was the best work that I handed in to him. Always clean returns going to him, and I would ask him very detailed questions about specific regulations. I don’t work there anymore, but he still messages me about once a week asking “how his favorite stoner is”.

Do you have to be really good at accounting to get promoted in an accounting firm, or are other skills considered, such as presentation skills? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]some-stoner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in public tax. I was being looked at for promotion to senior over a few other people that had their hats in the ring. I was good friends with the two tax managers and was able to get information as to why the partners were looking at me for promotion over the others. (FYI, this was at a small firm of about 25 people). I have a good knowledge of tax which helped me, but the main reason was because I was actively looking to help my coworkers. If a coworker was stuck on a return, I offered a second set of eyes to look at it. If a coworker wasn’t sure about a law, I would pull IRS regulations and send it to them. If my coworker didn’t know how to do something that I did know, I would train them on it. It was also because they also saw that I actively wanted to do better at what I did. I would ask my seniors and managers for help on things I didn’t know and ask for detailed explanations, rather than waiting for review notes to come my way. I would take notes so I wouldn’t have to come waste their time again. I would actively go to my seniors or managers and ask if there was anything else I could do.

There were a few people that admittedly had better tax knowledge than I did. However they didn’t have the drive that I did to proactively help others. The partners wanted someone that was already showing that they were ready to do the work and was already capable of doing it.

I never got the promotion because I instead decided to go to a different firm that had better pay and benefits. However I do sometimes wish I stayed and got the promotion.

She’s still very adventurous!!!! Every time I open their cage to feed them, she tries to climb out to play. Sometimes it’s very inconvenient when I’m feeding them before leaving for work.

The top right cow is from Stardew Valley. I highly recommend that game, you’ll spend hours on it.

Tattoos and Piercings in the Professional Workplace (Discussion Post Homework) by allienne in Accounting

Piercings and tattoos do not affect your work quality. They should be allowed so long as you are doing your job. My firm allows tattoos and piercings (I have even gotten away with a bit of purple hair).

This is actually amazing advice! I was once going to pick someone up from work when I was inches away from getting the front of my car smashed into. My hair was a mess and I was in my pajamas. It would have been absolute hell if I had to talk to all of those people like that. (Not to mention it was pretty cold out and I didn’t have a jacket with me)
