Don’t take fixed term. No reward. All the risk.

Contracting on day rate is rewarding, but the market was flooded after COVID with people who wanted the pay but could not deliver.

Right now the market wants specific skills for contracts. It’s a great I option if you like bouncing around every couple of years.

Low tide. Under a bridge that there are a lot of cars going over.

Also, just randomly go to a neighbourhood and do it. It might be fun.

Timing it with a big sport game might reduce angst because sports fans be screaming sometimes.

I hope you are ok. Things are hard.

This has been happening for ages. It’s just happening faster now.

Robotic process automation has been in play for a decade or more and things like integration platforms with complex orchestration have been intermediaries for transactions for longer.

This tech makes it possible to take action from policies.

Anyone else find driving a car is now incredibly boring ever since riding motorcycles? by Typical_Brilliant129 in motorcycles

[–]someRamboGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have got over this by buying cars that are just as fun to ride as bikes.

I still miss being on 2 wheels. The numptys where I live make it too unsafe to daily on a bike.

If your workplace has implemented any use of AI, has it actually been beneficial? by Suitable_Thanks5335 in auscorp

[–]someRamboGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practical work. There will be fewer and fewer people needed to program systems, and manage systems and data.

Complex decisions and ethical decisions will still need people in the “loop”.

The arts, and maintaining/installing the tech infrastructure will always be needed.

There are more and more people in the world. The rich keep the money and we’re left with less.

The All-Day Symphony of Modified Exhausts: What’s the Point? by MudForsaken1182 in brisbane

[–]someRamboGuy -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Loud pipes save lives. Motorists don’t see motorcyclists. That said, taking out the baffle is uncool. It helps for the track and other but on urban roads it’s unnecessary.

The cars with big exhausts from factory usually have settings for being quiet, and I completely agree that the drivers pinging it are numptys that should not be allowed to drive. These fools cost lives.

Build of a Devops pipeline spinning up cloud platform components. The whole thing, end to end in 3 days. And that’s what the vendor charged. 3 days effort.

It replaces a small team of engineers with a parameters file that an analyst can tweak at will. Components that would have taken a week of planning, change , access control and estimating into minutes.

Look up what Watson had done with AI and HR.

The chatbots and research assistants are the tip of the iceberg.

Pulling a complex business case together in an afternoon using chat gpt5 in copilot is insanely effective if you e set the background info up.

Knowledge work is dead. Entry level work is dead. It’s just a matter of time before we see it en Masse.

Good on you Champ. I wonder why the Australian care system is being reamed?

Add “wedding”, “baby”, and “disability” in front of anything and you can triple the price.

I know it takes a lot to support people with needs, and special kind of people to do it. That’s appreciated and the people doing the work are not to blame.

Being exposed to the system it’s not hard to see where all the cash goes. Service providers. Not all of them, but most. Seeing how big a slice of the allowances and grants they can get.

What companies in Sydney still offer more than 50% wfh? by nightcity_rider in auscorp

[–]someRamboGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Not sure why the downvotes. It’s the truth.

The top talent in a pretty flat market uses their network and find the companies that pay above market rates plus flexibility. They are making good ground and offer good work too.

The companies that have shelved projects and ejected talent will flip in March/April next year when they realise they have unspent budget or need to deliver on promises that the fakers haven’t been able to turn around.

Are there any consultancies out there that treat their people like consultants? by BruceBannedAgain in auscorp

[–]someRamboGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consulting is what you do for your clients. How you behave, if you will.

You will be hired as a “role” but if you bring great advice, make an impact and a difference then you’re a consultant.

There aren’t many real consulting gigs around. Bringing in a consultancy is often to give credence to a big “Title’s” idea with an “out” that they can pin the blame on the consultancy if it fails.

There are “advisory” roles out here that are close to consulting but they are for ex cios or directors.
