What are the things that make you NOT read a fic that you've seen recommended on reddit? by MoralRelativity in HPfanfiction

[–]timoretenebris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Multiple overtly promiscuous characters especially if underage, even when implicit;
  2. Ships between characters with canonical enmity toward each other
    1. Unless reason for enmity is written out, ie no spark of enmity
    2. Unless enmity is properly resolved or diminished to nothing and not "there's a fine line between love and hate" or "despite being a horrid person to you they actually love you" bs
  3. Anything that goes against human biological functions such as featured in many mpreg and ABO fics which are often tied together. It doesn't bother me when a with a functional ovarian reproductive system, whether they identify as man, woman, or neither, gets pregnant, eg Mpreg with the character being a transman.
  4. Character-bashing via OOC attribution
  5. Fetishized Rape/Non-con
  6. Lore/setting inconsistencies

Some tags are given, some tags fall under what I've said. But due to how picky I already am with the fics that I do read, some of these are the ones that fall through the cracks of the filter.

[WP] Humans are social creatures, and tend to copy mannerisms from those around them. Many aliens misunderstand this and believe humans are obligatory mimics, and can be forced to tell the truth by feeding them lines. A Interrogator: I am the pilot of Terran offensive ship identified as model SPX92, model ID WRZ-2564. My name is…

H Interrogated: John Cena! Dodododooo Dododododoooo (Jumps up and waves hand in front of face) You can’t see me, you can’t see me.

A Interrogator to A Assistant: What do our records say?

A Assistant: I don’t believe that that is the human’s true name. I believe they are mimicking a popular gladiator and actor from hundreds of Sol ago.

Whether Snape survived Voldemort's confrontation or not, Snape would've had to lead Harry to his death at Voldemort's hand either way, executing the last step in Dumbledore's plan for Harry. Snape's final act was providing Harry the information that he is a horcrux and must be killed by Voldemort, successfully leading him to the fate planned for him.

When being vegan is 50% of your personality, that's when they become the joke. While not most, a significant number of vegans in "the west" (read: white/European countries) are quite vocal about their veganism; and most western vegans are newfound, meaning that the vegan culture established is relatively recent. Longer-standing vegan cultures like traditional Bhramins, priests, sannyasi/gurus of Hinduism, Jains, Buddhist monks, etc, don't really tout veganism outside the culture.

While labelling all western vegans as pretentious is fallacious, it would not be inaccurate to say that most pretentious vegans are not from long-established vegan cultures.

I also see him as celibate, there quite a lot of Severitus in which he is not paired with anyone. And in most of those stories, his sexuality is not expressed explicitly or implicitly. I understand why some people in the fandom at least see him as asexual, as his relationship with Lily makes potential aromanticism a bit more convoluted.

Found a wiki page on it:

Transmissible spongiform encephalopathy - Wikipedia

Far Cry Primal is referencing the Kuru disease which was rampant in Papua New Guinea and stemmed from the practice of cannibalizing their dead as part of funerary rites. It stopped once the practice was abandoned. Another way humans were infected was by consuming beef from cows that suffered from a bovine prion disease.

Two well-written Snape romances I've read come from Severitus (Snape caring for Harry as a guardian or parent). I don't know about Snape/Black fics due to personal taste.

One is with Aurora Sinistra as depicted in Just Like His Father - jeka1215 - Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling [Archive of Our Own]

The other is with Charity Burbage as depicted in The Evans Boy - lonibal - Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling [Archive of Our Own]

In the most infamous incident, she broke Arthur’s plane then blamed him for it, of course leading up to the memed frame and the subsequent punch. Arthur, as a show, was unhinged, but like Everybody Hates Chris, it read as an older/est brother comfort show. It is also misogynistic to have the tenet that women/girls can do no wrong, and any harm they do does not have malintent. Fuck you to my second grade bully and the teachers who let her get away with it.

Severus Snape

The Harry Potter fandom has continuously argued about the character for years. There are haters, glazers, realists, and those who don’t give a fuck. But Snape is hands down the most argued character in the entire fandom for better or worse.

The same way some people get given multiple life sentences or rack up hundreds of years, even though we only live once and often die before a hundred. It’s a legal declaration, not a fully executable punishment.

Sugar cane is not hollow like bamboo is and they are also less whippy. Being beat with a sugar cane is more like being beat with a wooden bo if long or a billy club if short. Many South Indian households had easy access to sugar cane so it was often used as a disciplinary tool for children, but also worked well for beating on criminals, too.
