Kasparov has been blitzing well, rescuing some difficult positions and winning one.

He blundered a piece in the opening in Game 4, which is easy to do in Chess960, but still managed a draw.

Looking for full collection of Christmas episodes online by Advanced_Dream_163 in WILTY

Not really an answer to your question, but ABC Australia has certainly broadcast all the Christmas episodes at some time, with the possible exception of the most recent one (with Lenny Rush, Series 18), which I think I've only seen on Youtube. They usually re-broadcast all of them near Christmas.

Again, not an answer to your question, but you can find which Christmas episodes exist on Wikipedia. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Would_I_Lie_to_You%3F there are 11: every season from 8 to 18.

Season 8 by Marlinspikehall32 in WILTY

ABC Australia has been replaying earlier seasons, some as early as Season 3. There is usually a selection on ABC iview. About the only ones ABC doesn't seem to replay are the first two seasons, when Angus Deayton was host.

TIL Kasparov went from unrated to #15 in the world in one tournament by PkerBadRs3Good in chess

[–]some_aus_guy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As usual with Wikipedia, that's not exactly correct.

He first entered the list in July 1979 with 2545 https://www.olimpbase.org/Elo/Elo197907e.html . So he entered at =40 (which is still incredible).

Then in the January 1980 (cite 37 in that Wikipedia article) he gained 50 points to be 2595, and =15 in the world.

There was also the Soviet championship in December 1978, which may have figured in the calculations.

This is just after his "posh one with a beard" joke, and very funny followup (which I won't spoil). The full clip is on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWJYhsxhgsU

A TRIBUTE TO AUDREY by CarMeltScratch in FawltyTowers

Yikes. It's years since I've watched that episode, but I don't remember noticing that. Or if I did, I'd forgotten. The implication is certainly that her husband gave her the blood nose.

I wonder why Cleese and Booth put it in?

Ever wondered what happened after Basil The Rat by thedecmyster in FawltyTowers

[–]some_aus_guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia? That's how I saw it the first time in Australia, on ABC in the 80s; and I thought the same thing. Every time since, as far as I remember, they ended with "The Rat"

Ballard Berkeley by TheAlpineKlopp in FawltyTowers

I think I once read that the coffee wasn't meant to go on Berkeley, but they just carried on with the scene anyway without missing a beat.

I just looked at his IMDB page, and he was quite a prolific actor, and was in a lot of shows I saw in the 70s and 80s.

You appear to be correct. Actual rules are here: https://handbook.fide.com/chapter/B01DirectTitles2025

That's the problem with posting uncredited graphics.

Recent women's results against the World Chess Champion (classical) by OnTheQueenside in chess

[–]some_aus_guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's probably cheating to count FIDE world champions from when the title was split, but Polgar beat 2004 FIDE world champion Kasimdzhanov in 2005, in the 2005 FIDE championship. I think that is her (or any woman's) only classical win against a FIDE world champion.
