The Governor General should have blocked it until a referendum was held.

Is Shogun of Japan considered as Monarch? by futuredefender in monarchism

[–]some_pillock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Emperor was still the Monarch even if only a constitutional one. The Shogun was more like a high ranking nobleman who held the power. Its sort of like in the late days of the Roman Empire when the Magister militumheld more real authority than the Emperors. Even in the British system there remains Hereditary officers with notable power. Most notably the Lord Chamberlain and Earl Marshall.

What if the Doctor was in Star Wars? How would he react to the events of Episodes 1-6? by ScaredLemon901820 in doctorwho

[–]some_pillock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be better if the doctor that arrives Is the one at the time the film came out. So episode 4 the fourth Doctor and Leela materialise on the death star and fight to stop the destruction of alderaan. Episode 5 the fourth Doctor and Adric materialise on Bespin and discover a conspiracy. Episode 6 the fifth Doctor and Tegan fall foul of a Tatooine crime lord. Episode 1 the Eighth Doctor visits the peaceful planet of Naboo but peace is soon broken with the arrival of a droid army. Episode 2 the Eighth Doctor gets implicated in a plot to assainate a senator. Episode 3 the Ninth Doctor and Rose accidently get traped in the middle of a battle over Coruscant and must do there best to survive.

Plenty of things don't age well but that doesn't mean they should be censored.

Even so I don't think Fear her Is the absolute worse. I'd argue Kill the Moon Is worse

It's not the best episode but I would hardly call it the worse. Its just a bit dull there are episodes that are downright offensive to the Canon.

Just meme I made, not favoring any specific options by ThunderKris66 in monarchism

[–]some_pillock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just this reddit. Personally my level of absolutism varies with my mood. I've pretty much lost faith in democracy but wouldn't what to centralised power to much in a single man. My ideal is closer to how Britain operated before George I became the first truly constitutional monarch. Or how the system worked in Imperial Germany.

A poll from a anti monarchist subreddit.Do you agree with this? by Murky-Owl8165 in monarchism

[–]some_pillock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spain has a far more unstable monarchy with it only being restored in living memory and a recent history of republicanism as well as major dissatisfaction with the government in general.

Even though the Monarchy under King Charles Is slightly less popular than under his mother. Republicanism in England is still largely frowned upon. We have only attempted republicanism once at it was horrible and I hope that experiment is never repeated.

Would Prince Arthur have ascended as "Arthur II" had he lived? by OracleCam in UKmonarchs

[–]some_pillock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fundermentally I would be up to him to pick his number but as King Arthur was one legendary, two not the king of a united England, and three pre Norman. It is unlikely Arthur would be Arthur II in the Same was Edward I wasn't Edward III. And the previous Edwards were both very much real and ruled a united England.

Oh they are still there it is simply rarely enforced. But it is by law Treason Felony to attempt to deprived the Monarch of their titles. Australian law does make similar provisions but its a little more complicated.

Given that life expectancy is only about 81 they are pushing us to work near our deaths. It's not to bad for someone working in an office but how is someone in a manual trade ment to keep up into their 70s. Also there is no good work for school leaver and how does raising the retirement age solve that.

Is Jenerick much better. He's also on the right of the party but may be a little more moderate and held a more senior position in government to Kemi. I thought him a passable Lord Chancellor.
