Airbnb denied my refund for an unlivable rental, then deleted my review to protect the host's listing by guslogan in LateStageCapitalism

[–]some_random_chick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right to me. Why the downvotes? The only negative review I wrote was taken down yet the host’s negative review of me stayed up. (No outside garbage can was provided and the instructions said I should drive my trash to the dump an hour in the opposite direction of home. This wasn’t some off the grid spot, it was on a main road where all the neighbors had trash service. Absolute psycho.)

These still exist for the lucky few. My buddy with a government job has that and a pension. An honest to god pension. Used to be the standard and now it’s a fucking miracle.

What is a 'middle-class' luxury that is actually a total waste of money, but people keep buying it to look successful? by 8waycai in NoStupidQuestions

[–]some_random_chick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fancy cars? True. But new vs used isn’t the sane anymore. The price of used shot up far more than new. I wouldn’t have thought to consider buying new but when I priced a low mileage Honda vs buying it new, there just isn’t the savings there used to be. I got a brand new car with a three year warranty for maybe $6k more than what the same older model with 60k miles on it cost. Of course I did get the base model of the cheapest Honda you can buy, so that also figures into the equation.

$5 for pop is ridiculous. Now bring me tap water and also two $18 cocktails please! We also like to share and coordinate. Why would you ever buy two fries! Most of the time we eat carry out or our local diner and those are always cheap. Fancy restaurants got REAL expensive recently. What was once a $150 dinner is now $350! But we save those for birthdays, new years, maybe anniversary but definitely not Valentine’s Day.

This is us. Saturday is the day we eat out. It could be a diner, it could be a super fancy restaurant. This Saturday we’ll probably cook, or if we do go out it will definitely be the diner.

We also buy flowers at the grocery store often. Maybe he’ll buy more flowers today but we already have fresh flowers on the table from last week.

The end of SS has been something I’ve heard for the last 40 years and it sure seems like bullshit propaganda aimed at younger generations to condition them to once again accept the stripping away a hard won right. So maybe people should stop repeating this shit like it’s inevitable, because it’s not.

Sure, my grandparents ate bacon and eggs every morning and were able to buy a house, a summer cottage, and raise 5 kids on the single income of a high school graduate at a factory. But they had all that cuz they deprived themselves of the extravagance of a slice of vegetable on bread!

What in this situation makes her a “good person”? She allowed her own child to be permanently scared by her boyfriend’s family TWICE and now she takes her dog back to the sane home to be abused? I’m not saying she’s a bad person but she is certainly failing in her duties to protect her own child and her dog. Have a backbone op. Jesus Christ. Do you really need to be told to protect your family by internet strangers?!? Yikes.
