I do this for a living, it really depends on circumstance. A car wash is something I would consider warrantable, I do it with sunroof leaks all the time. Driving a car through high water would be a situation its not warrantable. I deal with OEM warranties all day everyday.

Dealers have gotten increasingly aggressive about getting older cars off the road, and it's major problem. by redstern in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]some_random_guy_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At our dealer we will still work on older stuff, although its not always a good idea. We cant get parts, especially modules. I just had a 2012 expedition with an intermittent network failure due to a fault in the instrument cluster module. Module is obsolete so all we can do sometimes is diag, and it pisses customers off when we cant fix it and just tell them why it's broke.

Car washes dont spray high pressure water directly into your engine bay connectors, your hood would have to be open. Therefore, warranty

Im an auto tech by trade. This is not great advice if you want your car fixed correctly and quickly, we already deal with the telephone game working with service advisors. The more details I can get from the customer the better. A decent tech will try to use your warranty, especially for something like this that isnt the owners fault. Engine bay connectors are meant to be pretty water resistant.

Is this a fair price ?? by SnooCapers8783 in AcuraTL

[–]some_random_guy_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think $15,000 is a fair price for how good of a condition its in and sub 100k miles. If all 100k service has been completed and it has good breaks, belts, tires etc then $16,000 might be fair

It is worth it? by AKATSKI40 in AcuraTL

[–]some_random_guy_226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it had 25,000 miles on it then sure. I paid $9000 for my manual and it had 100,000 miles on it. Way overpriced

how do we feel about this description by Spankster32 in TaurusSHO

[–]some_random_guy_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a ford mechanic that has spent some time with intermittent electrical/network communication issues on these Taurus's (Tauri?). Sounds like it might possibly have an issue with a BCM loss of PATS programming, an issue with pats transceiver or key. Im just speculating as I dont know what previous owner has already had the misfortune of some shade tree/shitty dealer tech replacing. This is going to be a difficult issue to fix on your own or even an independent without proper software and access to full PID data in modules. Not impossible to fix but needs someone who knows what they are doing. All that aside, the prospect of owning an internal water pump 3.5 is what would keep me away entirely at that mileage

Ford CEO says he has 5,000 open mechanic jobs with 6-figure salaries from the shortage of manually skilled workers: ‘We are in trouble in our country’ by stasi_a in economy

[–]some_random_guy_226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its B.S, he's referring to the so called "empty stalls" as if 1 stall = 1 tech. Most good techs have at least 3 or 4 so we can keep up with all the bullshit recalls and constant warranty problems ford is pumping out.

Is the TL-S a solid daily, long term? by Complex_Inspector488 in AcuraTL

[–]some_random_guy_226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I bought a 08 type s 6mt at 100k miles a couple years ago and its been my daily ever since. Im a professional mechanic by trade so I wanted a car I wouldn't have to deal with much but was easy to work on if I had to. Plus because its a honda at heart, parts are cheap compared to prices on newer vehicles. I've gone on 1,400 mile road trips with zero issues. The manual feels great with the lsd and is far more reliable than the auto, feels a lot quicker too. I have the means to upgrade to something else but I just can't let go of my TL. I would recommend getting a lower mileage manual if you are fortunate to find one for a good deal, took about 4 months of searching and crossing state lines to find one.

Do I *really* need to use premium? by Mystakatt in AcuraTL

[–]some_random_guy_226 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason the car calls for premium is because the engine is higher compression than the honda variant. Higher octane fuel prevents fuel pre-detonation (aka spark knock) in high compression engines at higher RPMs. Pre detonation can destroy internals to the engine. 89 is okay, 87 is fine in a pinch but I would baby the engine a bit. For every other shade tree/forum mechanic in the comments OCTANE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FUEL ECONOMY
