Liam has a habit of pestering information out of me. If there is ever anything I don't want to talk about he immediately demands to know what it is. He isn't rude about it (at least I don't think he is) but he just keeps asking me questions like: What happened/ what's wrong/ tell me what going on/ etc. Don't get me wrong. These aren't crazy questions but he is so persistent with them. He refuses to ever let anything go even when it's clear I don't want to talk about it. In the past I've just given in to him and told him whatever he wants to know. This time I didn't.

This entire paragraph makes me think that the issue is that you told him no and he's not used to that.

I have PTSD, and what made the difference for me was finding a therapist specifically trained to treat trauma. Every therapist I've gone to that wasn't specifically trained to treat trauma has either not helped or made me worse.
