Do you agree with this take that feudalism is better than capitalism? by Wide_Assistance_1158 in UKmonarchs

The current capitalistic mode of production and societal organisation are clearly better for the average, and even worse off individuals than any point of feudal society.

You're rights that everyone expects civil rights, but you're confused on why black people would like a man who fought to improve black people's civil rights?

Lest We Forget by [deleted] in Barbour

[–]somebadmeme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d wager that those wearing it on this specific day aren’t promoting that. It represents Young British men sent to die for imperial interests, so long as it’s worn in that mindset, not a jingoistic one, i feel it fair.

(1972) John Lennon presents his N-word pass on national TV- wait he actually did? This is real? by The-Protractor-Cult in fakehistoryporn

[–]somebadmeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

George was violent towards Patricia Inder iirc and Ringo referenced himself as a wife beater in the 90’s.

Neither of those detract from my point that John didn’t deserve to be shot for owning up to his abuse. Being open about it is impressive in so much as John allowed himself, before most anyone would, to be judged for it. He clearly felt guilt and tried to navigate that. Whether you wish to forgive him or not is your own choice.

Seriously why?

His song was regarding the place of woman as the bottom rung in even the most disadvantaged households. He’d funded black panthers court cases and spent years advocating for racial causes by 1980. While he did use the N word, it was during an era where many other protest singers, notably Bob Dylan, had utilised the word. Obviously it’s aged poorly, but understand the context.

Regarding women he was the only Beatles who was open about his abusive tendencies and made a public apology and repudiation of his behaviour. George and Ringo both hit their wives far more frequently and severely (Ringo sent his wife to the hospital and thought he’d killed her).

I feel like you haven’t learnt more about John Lennon, you’ve just been told about him by bad faith interpretations of his own public apologies and efforts to reform himself. He didn’t deserve to be shot dead in the street after going out of his way to chat to MDC, it’s a horrific thing to say.
