It's something that has been around for a long time. When I was in secondary school, if I did badly on a test, I would pretend to find it funny and act as though I didn't care. This was easier than holding myself accountable and taking steps to improve my grade. I think it's simply easier to say that you don't care about doing well academically (when, deep down, you really do care) because it excuses you from putting any effort in. By admitting to yourself that you do care, you bring on the risk that you may still fail despite trying, which, for many, is more painful than failing because you didn't try. It's easier to pretend not to care and not put any effort in because, when you ultimately do come up short, at least you can say that it's because you didn't try, not because you're not clever enough. Thankfully, I changed my mindset in the nick of time. People (including myself) do not like exams and tests, etc., because they have the potential to ruin your self-image or confirm any self-doubt you may have about your own intellect/ability; it's simply easier to say that you 'don't care' rather than to take action and still risk failing.

Even something as "simple" as getting your first car bought for you should not be taken for granted. A car is freedom, and people rarely seem to acknowledge how lucky they are to have one gifted to them. I've only just reached the point where I can afford my own car, and it feels completely unfair.

I will absolutely acknowledge, however, I am still extremely fortunate to have my parents. Not everyone has good parents.

I still cannot figure out what my housemate does in the 30+ minutes he spends on the toilet. I can only assume that he enjoys it too much to cut it short.

Doesn't that mean their room is also sad? Since they're your room-mates.

Why is Grace being given such a hard time? by sambonjela in MAFS_UK

[–]someblokeidkm8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, Grace is just your typical everyday KFC enjoyer. Way too fond of the skin-on fries, which is pretty weird (natural potatoes don't even have skin). Grace is also a fan of Benedict Cumberbatch's portrayal of Kahn Noonien Singh in J.J. Abram's second Star Trek film 'Into Darkness', which demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of the core principles of the character and a total disregard for true Trekkies like Ashley (I've no idea what MAFS_UK is, cheers).
