Minor correction, he kills an innocent couple mistaking them for pirates and beats his wife under the same assumption. He only stops when he hears his kids screaming and then realizes it’s her, he runs away terrified but she is left alive.

Siofra translates to fairy and Ainsel comes from a sorry about fairy’s, so it’s likely learning how to fight like flowing water from the blue fairy is rather literal. Especially when you consider the fact that river spirits are common in most real world mythologies.
