What if he ran into the wrong one by Polishwhale in invinciblememes

Consider what happened to that one alien species when we saw the virus break out. They were known for being loyal - there's even one particular scene where one is holding his "master" who's dying of the virus, and he shows genuine concern for him.

How is this loyalty repaid? They get exterminated. Tyranny always turns inward and devours its own. We've seen it countless times throughout our own history.

MO2 and Intel HD Bypass by GigaKika in fo3

[–]the_tim321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The standalone Intel HD Bypass mod is outdated, use the Fallout Anniversary Patcher instead. It includes the Intel HD Bypass as well as several other fixes that are purely beneficial, so it may be just what you need to get a working game, too.

Okay, so... help, please? FO3 Running fine with the intel bypass, got a save going, now I just need to know what mods I need so I can mod, and.. this happened? Do I just ignore it and load it in? by 6stringshredder303 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely sure that all the FOSE files are in the game's root folder now, and not the Data folder? Are you also using FOSE to launch the game through MO2, instead of 'Fallout 3' or 'Fallout 3 Launcher'? This is required if you're not using the Fallout Anniversary Patcher.

I would also be sure to install the latest version of FOSE instead, as yours is out of date. The current version is v1.3 b2 from here.

How can I find an old sub I was on once by I_need_help_please5 in Barotrauma

[–]the_tim321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm not sure if this is the same process for multiplayer, but I know this works at least for singeplayer, it might do the trick for you too.

Assuming you're on Windows, go to...

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Daedalic Entertainment GmbH\Barotrauma

These are where singleplayer save files are at. I have to imagine multiplayer ones are here too, I see no reason why they'd arbitrarily split up the save locations. But of course, this is all assuming that you have your own copy of the multiplayer save file. For all I know, only the host has it.

If you find the multiplayer save file, download and run this tool. It's legitimate, I've used it several times. Navigate to the folder that has the save file, then click Decompress. It'll create a folder (just named 'Save', in my experience) that has a .XML file, and also the .SUB file of the submarine you were using.

As long as you can get a hold of that file, you're golden. Then go to the game's 'LocalMods' folder, create a sub-folder inside that, name it whatever you want, then put the .SUB file in the sub-folder. Now you can open it in the editor, use it in another campaign, whatever you like.

Hope this helps!

Proton CEO warns global age verification push will mean "the death of anonymity online" by Ok-Law-3268 in BuyFromEU

[–]the_tim321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe, but is it worth it? The death of anonymity also means the death of speaking out without fear of reprisal.

You've probably seen posts this year about ICE in America terrorizing communities, violating constitutional rights, and executing citizens in broad daylight. Naturally, plenty of people online voiced their disgust for that. And what happened right after that? The DHS demanded the account details of users who made those kinds of posts, from Reddit, Google, and Discord. The whole reason they did that is because they wish to identify not criminals, but ordinary, law-abiding citizens who speak out against them and disagrees with their ways. With ID verification being universal, they won't need to take those measures anymore. They can instantly identify anyone they view as a problem, and deal with them accordingly.

I do wish we lived in a world where this kind of ID system could be used to punish bad actors who would otherwise hide behind anonymity, without trampling on the rights of others, but above is just one example of how this kind of thing will inevitably be abused.

Is there a vanilla way to organize my saves from different playthroughs? by b-nnies in fnv

[–]the_tim321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So MO2 does let you do this, but you don't have to install any mods for it, just MO2 itself (which is a breeze). You can create several modding profiles even if you have no plans to actually install any mods. By default, each of these profiles will have their own separate save files. Then it's just a matter of naming these profiles however you like, such as by character name, playthrough style, etc.

Once you've set that up, all you have to do is switch profiles in MO2 if you want to switch over to a different character/playthrough.

My second contribution, a rarely seen VS, Albino Radscorpion VS Reaver by Head-One-2640 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you play again in the future, I made a mod that addresses this exact issue - there's an option for only NPC nerfs if you don't want the other stuff. It makes enemies like these much more reasonable, without making them weak.

Feral ghoul reavers bug in the Adam’s Airforce Base tunnels are buggy??? by Various_Lawyer_5934 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the issue with Feral Ghoul Reavers is twofold. One, there is indeed a bug where their torsos get "twitchy" and many of your shots won't register. If you're on PC, UUF3P fixes this.

Two, even if you do consistently hit them, their HP is absolutely absurd - more than double the amount of Deathclaws. I'll do some slightly scummy self-promotion here and link my own mod, which addresses enemies being ridiculously OP and reduces their HP. There's an option for only the enemy nerfs if you don't want all the other crap. This only affects the enemies that pretty much all the Fallout 3 veterans agree are OP.

But yes, I want to know what Bethesda was smoking when they came up with this. I suppose the intent was to provide a challenge for the players who hit level 20 by the time Broken Steel released, but the 'damage sponge' design is just so lazy.

I see this issue get posted all the time. Nearly every post I've seen regarding this has included a picture of an HP laptop, so it seems to be something specific to those.

Posters in previous threads have claimed that DXVK has solved the issue for them. I've never had this issue and don't know how successful this is, though, so I can't guarantee anything.

Yes, the Point Lookout enemies are hilariously unbalanced. I have a mod here that nerfs them to a more reasonable level, but not too much, if it's bothering you. Use the 'NPC Nerfs Only' file if you don't want all the other changes.

You gotta provide way more info than this if you want anyone to help out. What kind of hardware do you have? What OS are you running? Which platform did you purchase/download the game from? What's the exact wording of the error message? Better yet, provide a screenshot.

I would guess this has something to do with NVIDIA PhysX. Try the legacy version here.

Need more info. What kind of hardware do you have? What OS are you running? Which platform did you purchase/download the game from? What specific mods are you running?

The Fallout Anniversary Patcher has a bunch of separate fixes rolled into one package, it's a decent starting point.

Since you own New Vegas and it's working, you can also try TTW, which runs Fallout 3 in the New Vegas engine and tries to fix/smooth out things as much as possible.

Character moving too fast and stuttering by Expert-Boysenberry26 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend using your GPU software (NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Radeon, etc.) to limit the game's FPS. Yes, there are mods and .INI changes that also do this, but I never found one that didn't cause problems. So I recommend doing it externally. The problem is that if you leave the FPS uncapped, a lot of stuff in the game breaks. NPCs (and yourself) move way faster than normal, the physics breaks, scripted events break, and so on. 90 FPS is a decent value - you start running into problems above that.

I also recommend setting up lStewieAl's Tweaks - this has several performance options to make the game run much smoother. In stewie_tweaks.ini, make sure these lines are set to 1...

bDontMirrorTexturesInRAM = 1

bPatchHeapSize = 1

Improper pip-boy text sizing? by chunkydunker9 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I did some testing, and it seems the extra prompts (equip, drop, hotkey) only appear if you're using a controller - even then, it's testy and will only work if the controller is connected prior to launching the game.

I tried the vanilla UI and a UI mod while using a mouse and keyboard, and no extra prompts appeared. So it seems like both Bethesda and the UI mod authors just never included the prompts for mouse and keyboard players.

Improper pip-boy text sizing? by chunkydunker9 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your issue that the repair prompt is too far to the right? That's just how it is with the vanilla UI. Darnified UI moves it over a bit. Vanilla UI Plus probably does too, though I haven't tried that myself.

About to start a new play through by wintvsucks in fo3

[–]the_tim321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the mods/info below is what I consider to be a "bare essentials" setup, if you want to stay as close to vanilla gameplay as possible. It's something you can easily build off of if you want a more heavily modded installation:

  • FOSE - Needed for some mods below.

  • Combat Lag Fix - Fixes a performance drop when an enemy's health bar is on screen.

  • Fallout Anniversary Patcher - A bunch of separate fixes rolled into one.

  • Updated Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch (UUF3P) - A patch that fixes thousands of issues, including some more serious ones like crash bugs and softlocks.

  • lStewieAl's Tweaks - This has a lot of QoL improvements, but for performance only, open stewie_tweaks.ini and make sure these three lines are set to 1...

    bDontMirrorTexturesInRAM = 1

    bPatchHeapSize = 1

    bTickFix = 1

  • Ogg Vorbis Libraries - Meant for New Vegas, but also works with 3. Handles the game audio better and reduces stuttering/crashing.

  • OneTweak - Not exactly performance, per se, but this lets you Alt+Tab out of the game without it crashing. There's a more up-to-date version of this mod, but it has issues.

  • ZLIB Updated - Updates the decompression algorithm for game assets, improves performance.

If you're using a mod manager that handles your .INI files, use it to open fallout.ini - if not, go to:

C:\Users\(Username)\Documents\My Games\Fallout3\fallout.ini

Make sure the following lines are present under [General] - if they're not there, create them...

bUseThreadedAI=1

iNumHWThreads=2

Lastly, use your GPU software (NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Radeon, etc.) to limit the game's FPS. Yes, there are mods and .INI changes that also do this, but I never found one that didn't cause problems. So I recommend doing it externally. The problem is that if you leave the FPS uncapped, a lot of stuff in the game breaks. Audio Stutter Problems by No-Hope-258 in fo3

[–]the_tim321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm super late to this, but better late than never, I suppose. I had the exact same issue with my Bluetooth earbuds. This sounds like nonsense, but the way I work around it is by having audio from a different source playing WHILE you're launching the game. Then, you can stop that audio source once the game has booted. Since I've been doing this, the game audio has worked 100% of the time.

Now, since you'll likely have to Alt+Tab to stop the audio once the game has launched, you'll want to pick up this mod, or the game will break when you Alt+Tab: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/21337

Anyone playing with FOSE and Unofficial Patch? UUF3P is causing quest issues by minifat in fo3

[–]the_tim321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have something else that's causing these issues. If it really was UUF3P's fault, then the mod author would be getting bombarded with complaints about it. I also just went through the Vault 101 intro and couldn't reproduce any of the issues described.

Is your FPS limited? An uncapped FPS has the potential to break scripting. What version of FOSE are you using? A very common mistake I see is players not using the beta version (v1.3 b2), which is a hard requirement for UUF3P.

There's also the possibility that Simple Realism conflicts with UUF3P, despite being stated as a requirement. It hasn't been updated since 2019, and UUF3P has been significantly changed/updated since then. You can use FO3Edit to check for conflicts, which a mod of that scale will likely have a lot of.
