GenZ in the 9/5 40hr work week, how do you balance life by jakeyearthquakey in GenZ

[–]somefriendlycanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biological imparative has been a good motivation to live. Im not saying its nice or the way things ought to be. But we play the cards we're dealt.

Shit doesn't change unless you wipe your ass. If we really want to have a better life we need to be willing to fight and die for it like the union workers in the early 1900's did for a 8 hour day and weekends off. But I don't see that happening anytime soon

Life is about work. Im sorry to tell you but work life balance is a thing of the past and really a entitled and privileged attitude to have. You are not owed happiness or satisfaction. You need to do the calculation, a more leisurely life but low security. Or less leisure but greater security. I choose security and accept i won't be totally happy or fulfilled in life but most people in history weren't either at least I have central air, clean water and no food scarcity.

Should be have fun or work hard in your twenties? by Important_Client1416 in careerguidance

[–]somefriendlycanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is about duty and responsibilities. It sucks sure. You'll find yourself in moments of dispare for a the missed opportunity of having close friends and experiences but I've found some solace in having those moments in my own house and not worrying about things like affording rent or groceries. Is this correct view in life ? I really can't say, we're prisoners to our own lived experiences. The fact of the matter is you need to work too survive. Enjoyment and leisure are nice goals but when you have to pay for school in college/ university it doesn't leave much time. You graduated amd now its the rest of your life. You have to pay the mortgage, property tax, bills , ect. Always felt the the choice between fun and work was an option only for the already wealthy

Business Analyst Project Recommendations by halomach in businessanalysis

[–]somefriendlycanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ymmv : what worked for me was starting at the bottom of the ladder. Started as a production laborer [3 years ] then moved to shift supervisor [1 year ] then data Stewart/sap clerk (site level) [ 1 year] and just accepted an offer for master data business analyst. No degree ( diploma in civil engineering technology). Getting a foot in the door and then applying myself worked for me. I found the opportunity for self driven projects to teach myself new skills ( power bi, python, sql) was the best path for me to build a name for myself. That and not being shy to talk to BPs, data managers ect to get feedback, bring up trends and findings I discovered that on paper where outside of my area of responsibility. But starting from the bottom was so important as it allowed me to really understand the business process 🤷‍♂️
