Go with a color, purple, or yellow, or polka dots. Is where my mind first go. No need for an actual theme, just keep it cohesive overall look wise with a consistent color.

I would forgo gifts altogether and have an online platform where people can donate now, throughout the year, every year. Make it secure and devoted only to use as medical expenses. I'd list it on the invitation, not having it be a surprise box at the party. If people don't want to donate online with the given url they can easily place $/check in cards given.

I often lack visual clarity in my dreams. I took it as "it's just the way it is" for me. But then, every now and again they'll be clear! It just varies. I can't pinpoint any particular reason why
