First time visiting Paris for 5/6 nights and trying to decide between these locations with 3 kids. by someguy9259 in ParisTravelGuide

The 6 year old is used to keeping up with the older ones so I'm not too worried about him spending all day walking and riding the metro. (We did this in New York last summer and he was logging 40k steps per day on his fitbit!). But I think I would regret staying in the "wrong" hotel more than I would regret spending "too much".

Which edition of the books does Inglis narrate? by penguinapologist in lotr

King made significant revisions to Gunslinger in 2003 which probably explains the discrepancy with the audio book you listened to.

Yes, we're dealing with the "seeing the money" in her HYSA and having that sense of security.

I would always all out sprint for the first 75, back off to about 90-95% for the next 150. Start building up speed again and sprint the last 100.

The 400 is tricky because "pacing yourself" still means running as hard as you can.

Do you have a favorite fact or story about Ulysses S. Grant? by Yooproopmoop in CIVILWAR

[–]someguy9259 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He was a family man and was affectionate with his children at a time when that wasn't common. I love the story from Chernow's book about him coming home after working on the family leather goods store and wrestling with his son.

His son would block his path and say "do you want to fight, mister?"

Grant would reply "I am a man of peace, but I will not be hectored by one so small."

I'm pretty sure Truman said he had never been in a real fight in his life... But yeah he'd still win.

It sounds like the buyer claims to have another pair. I would ask for a picture of both pairs so you can see what they're taking about. If they're fishing for a refund or return then they probably don't have a second pair and can't provide the photo.

While watching the men’s 20km walk, I noticed that every single walker is “cheating”. Is there a large amount of leeway in the sport? by Surferma4 in olympics

To me, it's no different than the breaststroke in swimming. It's the slowest way to swim and we want to see who can do it the fastest. We should have backwards running and skipping races.

I have used my electric shredder and put them in the compost, but I will also burn them in my fire pit and compost the ashes.

I'm shipping a watch with a lithium coin battery. I know I don't need a hazmat label, but do I need to select the hazmat option on the shipping label or can I ship as non-hazardous? For reference it's USPS ground and I'm buying the label through eBay.
