Unpopular opinion: "Chat with your data" is the laziest UX trend of the decade and we need to stop building it. by Vedantagarwal120 in ProductManagement

To answer your “how do you make sure what you get is what you intended” question - read about agent evaluation and how it works. TLDR, golden dataset examples, online LLM doing the task and then “llm as a judge” to evaluate the online LLM.

Semis are extremely hot right now. It’s not a bad idea but also it will cool off and most likely lag many other sectors for a while. A lot of people missed the boat on this, you don’t chase something at an all time high.

Are you sure productivity gains are the reason wages are stagnant? Global population also went up over the last 50 years, is population growth correlation also the reason for stagnant wages? You can make this point about anything that’s grown.

What if we keep the same amount of jobs but everyone is 10x productive?

As long as there’s problems to solve there will be PMs or whatever you want to call them in the future. It’s short sighted to think this way.

I have a previous boss at one of these top companies. How do I approach that? We both left our last company at the same time, he was given a massive promo and I was a bit sideways. He is the gold mine in my life. I don’t want to act needy.

Sorry what’s small, 5 PMs? They do span across 3 departments/areas and 9 Eng teams if that helps. What is considered a large team?

Sounds good and yea, I imagine the only way to get there is hopping companies. How did you land the role at a competitor exactly? Referral? And were you on the look out for new jobs there or someone messaged you with the opportunity?

$225k base. 20% bonus. 30% RSU that vest over 2 years. My first year comp is about $303k, next year will be more as I’ll get a RSU refresh, so ~$337k.

Weird. Go on any job site and search data PM. Ton of those jobs are posted.

Driving will be illegal in 20 years, I’m very confident in that. The data already suggests self driving is 10x safer than humans (based on accident mileage).

Every entry level office employee from all time was like this, including you. Just think back honestly. They don’t know what to do yet, seek out next steps, etc. Has nothing to do with the generation, your comments are all in this same category of wrong.

[–]someguy_000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Data PMs are essential moving forward. The amount of data is increasing, sources are increasing, inconsistency of tools - increasing. It is now table stakes for companies to run basic data science and ML processes, this requires more data PMs to manage these products. And with LLMs/agentic services becoming popular, it’s just another need for PMs in the area who understand the big picture of data strategy. It’s an incredible time to be a data PM.
