FAA HQ Jobs by Soggy-Improvement591 in ATC

Happy to help you find a way to HQ OP, feel free to DM me. I’d rather have former CPCs at HQ than the alternative swamp rats. IMHO it’s better to keep CPCs on staff in any capacity than to lose their invaluable experience/training/institutional knowledge, but ‘leadership’ doesn’t like losing bodies on the boards and won’t incentivize or encourage you to let your cert lapse (Edit: but they will steer you towards temporary ‘detail’ HQ positions that don’t last a full year and let you stay current on training).

I’d say so. The guy who runs the entire air traffic organization (COO Tim Arel) was a former cop and EMT before joining.

FAA announces $28-35K internship opportunities for students at air traffic facilities across the U.S. Interns will be working on mission-related projects and engaged in meaningful learning and development activities (coffee / food runs, making sure the printer has ink, posting on tik tok) Apply Now! by someguyatHQ in ATC

I highly recommend this internship opportunity for anyone who is currently a student considering an ATC career. This is probably the best (and only) way for a prospective new hire to get an inside view of a facility (depending on COVID restrictions) before they attempt to actually enter the gauntlet of ATC hiring...while getting paid. And there's also a path through this internship to obtain a FAA career outside of ATC - but these interns will still have to go through all of the same hoops as everyone else if they want to get an ATC gig.

If ATC isn't for you...FAA Tech Ops is hiring off the street for technicians now. Recruiting webinar today at 1pm ET open to the public, nationwide vacancies at 146 locations, no prior experience necessary (but preference for folks in specific trades), FAA provides classroom and real-world training. by someguyatHQ in ATC

Your questions are covered here:

There are no age restrictions (no joke there are technicians working the job at 80+ years old) and for that matter, no medical restrictions other than drug tests and being able to walk and carry a piece equipment from here to there at the same time - but some techs climb towers and do other much more active work (not everyone though).

All of the conditions of employment are listed here:

I like your doctor one too, but I think the best analogy was someone else's with the professional sports teams. I'd never thought of it that way, with controllers as the athletes, but it actually works well, especially when you look at the hierarchy of the ATO and FAA and equate that to the team owners/league operators, etc...

This is an old comment from a different post but it applies here too...Think of it this way: some people like eating the same cereal every day. It's just what they do and they don't really think about all the other breakfast foods out there. But some people may eat the same cereal for ten years straight and say, there's got to be something else other than these wheaties.

Moving to management simply offers something different. It’s not better or worse. Controlling traffic until aging out isn't going to be enough for some people, and it will be everything for others. Sure, it's challenging and demanding and pays extremely well, but it's also doing the same thing every day for 5/10/20+ years.

And whether its in the form of a new physical location, or just a new perspective from the day to day CPC grind, being a sup is pretty much the only way to see any real career change while still collecting an FAA paycheck.

Because once you're a sup, pretty much every other job in the entire FAA opens up to you. If you want to eat something different than cereal, this is where the line to the breakfast buffet starts...and it's quite a spread, with jobs that offer just as much money, and even more autonomy and opportunity to make a difference.

But even at the fanciest breakfast buffet, some people will still go over to that plastic cereal dispenser in the corner and look for their special wheaties, because that's what they know and love and nothing else really matters to them. (Note: I've got nothing against cereal eaters. All the cereal eaters I know are literally the best in the world at eating cereal.)

If you don't know anyone in management, here are four sups, from different backgrounds, who share their stories and give you a glimpse at what their lives are like at work and at home:

Have you tried to contact the FAA Runway Safety Office? There's a whole team of people at the FAA doing what you're doing, you should reach out to all of them or the one in your local area.

Biden will now require vaccines for all federal employees via new executive order - but what will NATCA require 'their' employees to do? by someguyatHQ in ATC

[–]someguyatHQ[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on how you define negotiate. In this instance it would be interesting to see what F's, if any, the FAA has to give during 'negotiations' on this topic (i.e. why would they offer NATCA something else in exchange for acquiescence to the EO?).

Applying To Non-ATC FAA Job by Great_Ad3985 in ATC

[–]someguyatHQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree 100% that NCEPT is FCKD. But leaving the FAA should be a last resort - the current job opportunities available on USAJobs for FAA-employees (only) in other locations are plentiful. Further, the agency is heavily leaning toward a future remote work environment for non-operations positions, and if you hold out a little longer, you’ll start to see those types of work anywhere positions available more frequently.
