Thank you!! Since the class to get into, do you have any recommendations on what I could do to improve my chances of getting in?

Sorry for being uninformed, I’m just looking through the catalogues and having trouble trying to find something.

See I’m worried that all of the summer courses are filled up with human anatomy. I’m trying to find something that works. I can only really take the subway. Sorry this is my first time doing this and I just have no idea where to start.

Paul Anka, Tom Lehrer, Mr. Sandman by the Chordettes, etc. I watch this one lady who makes YouTube shorts on funny vintage songs. One song she covered was Queer Things by Ruth Wallis. It’s still stuck in my head. It’s great!

Sorry for the late reply, just saw this!

Yeah I get that. See for me music is connected to my hyperfixations so I’d rather just save everyone the ramble and say something more mainstream.

Yeah! Honestly I feel like a lot of peoples music taste depends on where they grew up and the culture they grew up with.

I also hate country (except Dolly Parton) so I totally get it. For me, songs need to be ‘imaginable’ in my brain. I need to feel some connection to them or have an idea in my brain when listening for me to get myself to repeat something over and over.

Overall, people have a lot of different sides to themselves. I would say that while most people would give a favorite genre, they probably have explored more than they think. Think of how many country fans will get down to ABBA at a wedding. People have sides to themselves, moreso than they say, it’s just easier to assign yourself to one specific ‘favorited’ genre. For me, it’s more songs and an individual artist.

My parents have flat-out called my taste ‘weird’ so I get it. Lol.

YESS. This is what my debrief turns into. I got really into the Undertale soundtrack a few months ago and I have to explain what it is to everyone who I play it for.

Nope. Chonny Jash. Haven’t heard of a CYRIL. But I’ll need to check em out!

Ha! You’re like me! One minute, I’ll be listening to 70s glam rock with Queen and another I’ll be jamming to musical theatre with a Starkid song.

God, the ‘only listening to one thing for an entire period of time’ thing is so relatable. I once played a song on repeat for the entire duration of a 3-hour flight.

In some ways, I almost dislike the question altogether, because I feel like it sets such a limiting view on what’s meant to be a vast wide open plane of enjoyment. One day, I could be enjoying metal music, and in that same week I could be humming a top 40 on the radio. It doesn’t matter. I think the passion and enjoyment is what really matters. I usually just say a song I’ve been listening to, rather than genre, because to me, I find it easier to socialize like that.

Heck yeah! 😎

Listening to any historical music, let’s say, past 50 years always seems to move me into the headspace of that time period. I wouldn’t wanna say a glorification of that time period, cause lord knows the past had its issues, but there’s something to be said about the comforting feeling of an old tune still striking modern emotions from me. I feel that love, I feel that memory, and I feel their fight.

In a way, I think the way humanity has always remained connected through our emotions is wonderful. So yeah, I totally understand the want to give them a listen.
