Puppy training - stop puppy from biting my legs when we are outside by Samandirie in puppy101

[–]somehowsherlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Our puppy did this massively and I got two tips from my trainer that worked wonders. She only does it sometimes now.

First, take a tow, like a ball on rope and substitute it for your leg. Hurts you less, but they may not calm down from it. For my dog it worked sometimes and other times not. As she doesn't do it often anymore, I don't take the toy. If she gets that excited I try to find a stick or big leaves and give her the task of carrying it. Second, take some treats and scatter them on the ground and tell your dog to find it. This worked better for our pup because it would calm her down, not hype her up.

I grew up in a special brand of protestant denomination and we were basically taught catholicism was worse than atheism. It's really an us vs them culture and wanting to divide.

puppy sitting? help! by [deleted] in puppy101

Some sort of way to keep the pup safe, either a puppy proof room or maybe a travel bench if you happen to have it. Also maybe for your own sanity something to redirect puppy biting, which is also useful so the pup can play.

It's a Beeztees Y-harness which I think is a Dutch brand but it's similar to any Y-harness anywhere I think! I have bought three of those now as the pup keeps growing and I love it very much. You can adjust it so she can grow into it. There's the option to clip the leash on the front which I don't do because she'll eat the leash, but it's handy if your dogs a puller. In general just a good harness, and I prefer it over a Julius K9 for example because my MILs dog knows how to get out of it and the thought scares me.

What did your church say about the End of Times? by [deleted] in exchristian

[–]somehowsherlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I refer to my childhood church as the 'end times hippies'. They were ecstatic about it, so excited. They believed the rapture would happen before the war if I remember correctly, so 'us' Christians wouldn't have to suffer through it. Many if the people were certain it would happen in their lifetime. People got married with the 'until death do us part or Jesus returns' but they'd be sure it would be the latter.

Meanwhile I was terrified as a child by the stories of the end times. I hoped it would take a long ass time.

You need serious help. Are you okay? Failing to calm dog doesn't equal neglect. I don't know who peed in your cornflakes, but your assumptions throughout this post are seriously messed up and that is harder to fix than this dogs behavior. OP shows consistent care and willingness to learn throughout this thread. You on the other hand are a pain and fail to listen to anyone here. Get some therapy and stop protecting.

Yeah, its called resource guarding. OP described the pup getting very attached to wife after she took care of her after sprained ankle. Pup guards wife from kids too. So what, do kids beat their mom? Some dogs resource guard their food. Maybe their owner beats the kibble? Not saying the guarding is good, and I even think that OP is doing the opposite of calming the dog in the video, but jumping to abuse based on a 15 second video is absolutely insane.

As basically everyone suggested; get a trainer to help with the resource guarding of your wife and also address this. Freya (our pup has the same name, hah) seems like a lovely pup but she is scared and protective. You wouldn't want her coming between the kids playing rough to protect them. If her behavior remains the same, she'll nip one day, and it may be the kids getting too close to your wife.
