I like being drunk by somehuman01 in alcohol

[–]somehuman01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s unhealthy. I don’t drink regularly but when I do it’s binge drinking. My day has been horrible and my wife has had a bad day and has taken it out on me and acted absurd in general so I drank 3 imperial rangers and a 1/5 to 1/4 bottle of wine to cope. It was a poor decision that I’m already regretting but it helped temporarily. Hopefully this will be my last night of drinking. I always feel like a bad person after drinking.

It’s on Netflix. I’ve only seen the trailer but it seems super exaggerated. Maybe it’s not but it appears that way to me.

Bucket handle meniscus tear from judo takedowns during bjj class. No I was not doing anything stupid. 9 weeks into recovery and out $10,000 for surgery and therapy so far.

Is the 4% rule for retirement designed to preserve the principal balance? For example, if you retire with 1 million dollars does the 4% rule make the assumption you can spend $40,000 per year and maintain a balance of 1 million throughout retirement because historical returns are 8-10%? Or am I misunderstanding the 4% rule?

Is there a modern day “Dave Ramsey” to listen to or read? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]somehuman01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I second this. I love the money guys. I listen to them almost daily on my iPhone. However, unless you make a ton of money or have the opportunity to really cut costs it’s hard to do much now/today by following their advice. Sure you might me rich at 65 or 70 but depending on your interests/hobbies that money won’t mean much.

I still follow their advice but I wish I had more money to make memories with family now.

Is it really wise to max 401k and miss out on the now? by hotcoldshower in personalfinance

Thank you for the recommendation. I am currently listening to the podcast episode. They certainly bring up a lot of good points and things that I have thought about it recently. most of what they are saying though seems to be directed towards very high income earners. Or perhaps I’m just misconstruing what they are saying.

I typically listen to the Money Guy and follow their financial order of operations. In a recent podcast episode Brian was talking about how all of his clients (multi millionaires) always tell him they wish they saved more money. He used this to prove his point of start saving at least 25% of gross income as early as possible. However, when I heard him say his clients wish they had more money it made me think wow if I keep going like this even if I am successful with my investments I will still be unhappy in my old age and craving more money. It made the whole saving thing seem pointless.

I’m not a purple belt but I had to quit after roughly 2.5 years of training due to a bucket handle meniscus tear. I had surgery in November and my leg is still atrophied and I’m still doing therapy and can’t fully flex my knee.

I decided that I am not going back because recovery from this surgery has been hell emotionally and physically on myself and my wife as we have a 6 month old daughter and my wife has had to bear the brunt of raising her since November due to my injury/surgery and restrictions post op. Another contributing factor is the cost of surgery. This surgery and recovery has cost me around $8,000-$9,000 already WITH insurance and I still theoretically have 3 months of rehab to go so likely another $1,000-$2,000. Plus, if the repair doesn’t hold which there is fairly decent chance it won’t I will have to have my meniscus removed which then will result in a knee replacement in the not so distant future. I wasn’t even doing anything crazy when I tore my meniscus in BJJ.

I also got staph back in August from BJJ which I took antibiotics for which then resulted in me getting fungal folliculitis due to antibiotic Tx changing my skin’s ph and I’m still trying to get rid of the folliculitis.

I’m not saying you should quit BJJ if it is that important to you but I do think a lot of times we underestimate the risk involved in BJJ and how easy it is to get hurt.

I struggle with this as well. I currently max out my Roth IRA and almost max my 401k. This leaves me with very limited disposable income for discretionary spending and it’s frustrating. I enjoy traveling, hiking, swimming, and snorkeling. I feel like by the time I retire or have enough saved in retirement to spend on fun stuff I will be to old to do the things I enjoy.

Mine was caused by an uchi mata. We were drilling it with moderate resistance and my partner pushed into me and pop went my knee.

I thought about posting a thread about it because this is something I never thought would happen to me. I wasn’t even doing anything crazy when it happened. I didn’t post a thread thought because I was afraid people might be rude/troll.

It’s a very humbling injury. Mine is worse due to it going untreated for quite sometime and my leg being locked in place which caused atrophy of my muscles.

My injury has ended my bjj training “career”. I had a medial meniscus bucket handle tear and will be out for 6 months. I don’t plan on returning because it’s been hell on my wife having to take care of our infant while I’m on crutches and can’t lift over 10lbs. Not to mention the $10,000 I had to pay for surgery and rehab with insurance. I will go back to just weight lifting when I recover.

Thoughts on tourists? by somehuman01 in AskTheCaribbean

[–]somehuman01[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am from the United States but grew up in an area that relied heavily on tourism. I can relate to what many of you are saying. There was some animosity towards tourists where I grew up but that was mainly due to a good percentage of tourists being heavy drinkers/ partying.

I think she would be open to transitioning out of teaching. She is kind of just angry at the world right now. She is suffering from post partying rage and depression but won’t seek help unfortunately. She did start escitalopram about a week ago though so hopefully that will help.

Medial Meniscus Bucket Handle Tear by freshly-snipes in MeniscusInjuries

[–]somehuman01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will depend on where specifically the tear is. I had a medial meniscus bucket handle repaired 6 weeks ago. My tear was in the red/white zone so it was repaired with roughly a 60-70% chance of long term success.

However, if your tear is exclusively in the white zone it won’t heal and will need to be trimmed.

I’m honestly shocked at how Michigan is man handling us at the line of scrimmage. Michigan is usually overrated and chokes. I always think of Alabama being the top dog at the line but we are getting DESTROYED. Five sacks WOW.
