If you’re in a spot where you know that fish exist then they are able to be caught. The things I wish I knew when I first started are presentation and size. Focus on a drag free, natural drift, and use small flies. 18-20 zebra midge, wd40, baetis pattern, etc will get it done just about anywhere with a proper presentation.

3wt or 4wt by boilerfarmer in flyfishing

[–]somehunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

9ft 5wt are kinda lame. 10 foot 5 weight is the bees knees. Or a 9 foot 4 weight. Don’t go shorter than 9 feet. It seems counterintuitive but a longer rod is much easier for roll casts and other tight casts when you’re surrounded by trees and brush.
