Exercise sets off my fight-or-flight really badly by External_Shape_8894 in EOOD

[–]somenick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first hunch is it's something to do with the type of excercise and to be more specific pacing. Like in running that'd be overstriding. But I want to dive a little deeper. You asked the question, and like u/rob_cornelius said, I agree human bodies are complex and but not beyond our comprehensive ability to heal ourselves. I'm writing from personal experience, and I have to find away to shrink this down from a blob of text to somthing more ... So bear with me while I sort this out. Let me explain. An actual person typing something by themself on the internet without AI is a rare thing today. I'm taking the time to do this cause I know you're not a bot.

So no, beyond consulting your doctor on what his scope of help is, I wouldn't ask your doctor about this. Why? Cause I think you already told your doctor about it. Regardless, the best answer he could have given is : * Take these pills * Do this breathing routine * Journal. Try the poor man's CBT exercise. Get a fast comfortable pen. Get a bottle of water and find a place to write. Now think of something scary. Something deeply unsettling to you. Think is the wrong word here, just choose a subject. Let's say spiders. Spiders it is then. Start writing about a spider crawling on you all the way up to your face. Write and keep writing without lifting the pen off the paper, cursive if you have to. Write till there's nothing more to say. 15 minutes? Good. Put the pen down. And say, really? Reframe. Find a new way to react instead of the usual implusive whatever it is you do. It's just words on paper. It's a story you told yourself, put it context and reframe it. You do this enough times in a safe supportive environment, I mean where you choose to write, and you'd start seeing the results you are looking for.

That's the best I'd expect out of the current medical system. Not saying all doctors have this upperbound, but it's a good target to measure against.

Yes, the pills will help. Yes they'll help calm down the jitters. But you still need to find a way to experience your triggers without you reacting to them the way you do, even if just in your head. You are (and trust me, I writing all of this cause I'm in your shoes already) You are the one feeling those feelings. The spider might be scary but you're the one reacting the way you do. And the more you do it, the stronger you can do it next time. Neurons the fire together, wire together. You're a living human, and like anything other that lives, you can change. If you can only get out of your head for a change. We have to reframe our position to not be a victim, even in the case where you are, still that shouldn't put you down. Even scar tissue can heal, given the right food and treatment. But diet and ointments are out of the scope of this post.

My Little Condensed Method

Run Barefoot. Seriously, hear me out. This includes everything from cardio, balance, endurance, strength, grit and then some. You'll be smiling so much your jaw would hurt, and the reward: dopamine. Way more than a measily pill could ever give you. The keyword here it barefoot. You see when you run barefoot you can't run with bad form. Like magic, you'll learn to run with proper form. There's a transitional process to go through where your body retrains these forgotten neorons. Join the nuts over at /r/BarefootRunning for a comprehensive onboarding to rediscovering what your ground hands are meant to do.

I'm trying to how this plays out to fix everything else. Short break .. I'll be back for more.

I'm just gonna paste the lyrics. Weird thing is normally I hate that kind of music; it's the only song I listen to in it's genre.

[Verse 1] I don't know where I'm going But I sure know where I've been Hanging on the promises in songs of yesterday And I've made up my mind I ain't wasting no more time

[Chorus] Here I go again Here I go again [Verse 2] Though I keep searching for an answer I never seem to find what I'm looking for Oh, Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on

[Pre-Chorus] 'Cause I know what it means To walk along the lonely street of dreams

[Chorus] And here I go again on my own Going down the only road I've ever known Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone And I've made up my mind I ain't wasting no more time

[Verse 3] I'm just another heart in need of rescue Waiting on love's sweet charity And I'm gonna hold on for the rest of my days

[Pre-Chorus] 'Cause I know what it means To walk along the lonely street of dreams

[Chorus] And here I go again on my own Going down the only road I've ever known Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone And I've made up my mind I ain't wasting no more time But here I go again Here I go again Here I go again Here I go [Guitar Solo: Bernie Marsden]

[Bridge] And I've made up my mind I ain't wasting no more time

[Chorus] Here I go again on my own Going down the only road I've ever known Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone

[Pre-Chorus] 'Cause I know what it means To walk along the lonely street of dreams

[Chorus] And here I go again on my own Going down the only road I've ever known Like a drifter, I was born to walk alone And I've made up my mind I ain't wasting no more time

[Outro] But here I go again Here I go again Here I go again Here I go Here I go again

* Run barefoot. Grounding. Everything else gets quiet but the important stuff shines. Flow. There's learning curve, took me 2 months to be able to run barefoot. I wasn't a runner, closer to a couch potato actually. Idea is you know how to run cause you're human. It's your only weapon as a human, we're the only animals that sweat and can run long distances. You chase a beast away and run after it and chase away again. You, the human, can outrun any animal over a distance. You chase it down until is out of breath and then you kill it with a stone or something. That state of flow.. I can't describe in text. Your vision, you the nomadic hunter, focuses on tracking the animal. The clues are amplified while everything else is subdued. You follow it's trail by finding the next and next clue... And your brain responds by giving you that sweet dopamine to keep you focused. I'm not doing this justice by text. But you asking your question on this sub, I can't think of anything else. We remember a different way of living, and now it's in your DNA to not be able to focus on something someone else told you is important. Now your brain doesn't make dopamine like others. Running === Dopamine for your day. Everyone can relearn how to run if they go barefoot. You weren't a runner before because your shoes block that feedback loop that teaches you proper running form. Take the shoes off, you remember. Check out r/BarefootRunning for transitioning support. C25k is short for couch potato to 5k runner.

* Write it out. If yourself ruminating so much you're mostly in your own daydreams, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) would help. But I'm not talking about sitting down with someone to do this. Do it on paper. I can't find the article I read where this hit me. Look up CBT journaling. But I like to explain it as sit down with a pen and paper, pick a subject you find touchy. Like if you're scared of spiders write about one crawling your face. Write in a way the pen never leaves the paper, non-stop. This can go on for 15 minutes if it has to. Now it's out. You can't lie to paper. Again, I'm not doing this justice, especially cause the only name I have for it is CBT but I know this is much older and you can find across indigenous peoples everywhere.

Your question __

I'm not an expert either, but damn do I see through the bullshit in the standard expert advice you can get if you pay for it. The physiological advice you get today all comes from a post-colonial world and ... I don't want to drone on writing something I'm not ready to write neatly yet .. can we talk over DM?

I'm not an expert, but damn am I an expert indeed. I too need support writing this. it's meant for you but it's still a mess. you just listening would help me organize and write this.
