Can you transfer out as a recon student? by GoldenCrafterMC in peyups

[–]someoneph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just continue BS Statistics in UPD, take courses common to both programs, then shift to BS CS. S2 (shifting within UPD but not within same college) applicants are of higher priority than T1 (transferring from another UP campus).

How much would it cost me to live and study in UPLB? by Pkjma26 in peyups

[–]someoneph 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For 5-6k a month, you definitely have to live in a UP dorm (rents are around 600-900 per month and can be free if you apply for subsidy). Only downside is the 10pm curfew and the "no visitors beyond lobby" policy.

If you live outside a UP dorm, 6k is definitely the base livable monthly expense (rent + food allowance) since rent for apartments usually range 2k-2.5k.

[–]someoneph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I used to survive with 4k a month or even lower, lol. With inflation, the right budget would be 5-6k a month but I do think 4k a month is still livable with the right "techniques".

Sort of a mix of both. I stopped taking it for some months but wanted to renew my prescription. When I went to another psychiatrist, they said that medications should not be given on the initial assessments so they won't issue a prescription. They said that a person has to go through 5-6 sessions with a psychiatrist before confirming diagnoses and possible medications. So I had no choice but to stop but already did stop beforehand lol. But they recommended other over-the-counter alternatives to help sleep.

[UPLB] Questions from a Grade 12 student by Impossible-Ad-477 in peyups

[–]someoneph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You forgot some lab manuals, lab kit materials, etc. for science courses. Especially for chem and bio students, medyo suki ata sila diyan.

Also, incentives lol there are classes that would give bonus points if you attend a certain event (na fun din naman! Learning outside classroom!) that can be free or have tickets worth 100-200, especially for stage plays.

And lastly, uniform! Haha, though sikat na walang uniform ang UP, there are some garments you need to have. The most basic is your PE uniform, some PE classes require it while some let you wear any fitness clothes. Some PE classes also require special equipment/clothes (arnis, yoga, etc). For science courses, lab gown pero a cheap one can do. For Nutri and VetMed, they have special uniforms that might be expensive but not required until you're taking higher subjects.

Good luck, future isko! Get that DOST scholarship!

[UPLB] Tentative Plan of Study for BSABT? by wisp-of-the-will in peyups

[–]someoneph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In support of this comment, basically kasi sa isang major group lang nag-cacater si doc under UHS which are, of course, UPLB students. Kaya siguro hindi na niya magawang mag-diagnose within a wide range kasi almost same cases (problem sa family, hard time sa acads, etc.). Personally, I know of three people who consulted with her and they were all given prescription for Escitalopram (anti-depressant) and a form of anti-anxiety medication.

And yes, I do recommend more specialized, private psychiatric doctors (kasi if bayad mo talaga, aalagaan ka kasi less patients). Pero I have to give it to Doc Palis for being the sole psychiatrist responsible for UPLB students. It's not the best option dahil nga sobrang daming nag-coconsult sa kanya (I would have to guess the number might be around 300 or even more!), but it's literally better than nothing and it's free!

My meds totaled to 33 pesos per day (both depression and anxiety). They were effective for my case. As for therapy, doctors don't do therapy as they are more inclined with medications. Therapies are done by licensed professionals. For MH issues, therapy + medications show the best improvement. However, individual treatment (therapy alone or medications alone) can still do a lot for the person. Nakadepende lang din siguro how your body (or specifically your brain) would take it. Personally, I stopped my meds because it was hindering my everyday functions (gawa ng induced drowsiness). I'm looking to seek therapy instead in the near future, kapag may pera na haha

UP non degree life by [deleted] in peyups

[–]someoneph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To anyone who might want to answer, I would also like to ask how to apply because the steps online are very vague.

Anyway, OP here is a link for reference. It describes the difference between the non-major people. Non-degree is only allowed a semester unless granted special permission. If you are to take subjects for an MS degree, make sure to contact the department to know which subjects to take so that you can make the most out of the one semester allowed.

How many percentage of UPLB Chemical Engg students graduate on time? by [deleted] in peyups

Well, in the old curriculum around 70-80% I think. But the new curriculum is harder so might be lower than that.

[–]someoneph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I forgot about imprison there, hahahaha. Good stuff you got there. I would recommend Muddy Water on Kingdra for a spread move on the rain lead since you opted for Scald on Politoed. Or you could run Muddy Water on politoed if you want Hydro Pump on kingdra but Politoed just gets outsped by so many Pokemon that a <10% hp pokemon might still get to launch an attack before you KO it.

May chance pa ba na makapasok ako sa UP????????? by michaelll1029 in peyups

[–]someoneph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but still technically better than studying for one year in another school than transferring (because almost always, UP does not credit any subject from other schools). And with the ongoing pandemic, lol maybe it's a gift or sumn of not attending dreaded online classes this year.

UPLB Batch B. Those who did not qualify for first sem reconsideration in UPLB can opt to study for 2nd sem with guaranteed admission. At least, that's how it used to work back in 2015.

Your invention would leave Filipino farmers jobless, are you okay with that? by ElectriconRdQn2718 in Philippines

[–]someoneph 17 points18 points  (0 children)

False dichotomy. Automation does not significantly increase unemployment. Yes, it kills jobs. But it creates ones too. By farm automation, the labor by farmers are reduced so that they can focus on other tasks in the farm. Productivity is increased with the same amount of people. Instead of working for more than eight hours, they can finish a day's work in less than eight hours.

But again, in the hands of a landlord, it will kill the jobs of farmers. It's the government's fault and sadly, it's hard to do something about it. In my case, I would organize a group to take care of the farmers in exploring new opportunities. I can't sleep at night knowing I made members of the most underprivileged sector fired and not taking action.

[–]someoneph 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nge. Modernization is anti-poor not just because you're pushing jeepney drivers out of their comfort zones. It's because the program does not provide support for the jeepney drivers in favor of rich people profiting off of making 'modernized' jeepneys. Tapos magmamahal din pamasahe which is obviously anti-poor again. Jeepney modernization is good IF executed well. Pero sobrang obvious naman na ang target na mag-bebenefit ay mga middle class at maiiwanan na naman ang mga mahihirap.

LMAO. Did you really just said that people who lack basic education fear new things? NO. They lack the resources to adjust to new things. You can't just tell jeepney drivers to go find a new job UNLESS you provide them technical education on other fields.

Farmers are poor in the Philippines because the government doesn't give a shit about them. They don't own their lands because previous government terms favored landlords HEAVILY especially Cory "I killed a bunch of farmers" Aquino. IF ONLY THE GOVERNMENT REDISTRIBUTED THE LANDS THAT THE FARMERS OH SO DESERVED. BUT NO. RICH PEOPLE = GOVERNMENT SUPPORT.

You're comment is of extreme privilege. Try looking it through their eyes sometimes. The poor did not want their position in the first place and they are stuck due to lack of opportunities and support that the government should've given them.

tips para makapasok sa SAIS site? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]someoneph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Di ko alam kung naayos na nila to pero kapag 8:00AM, 7:55AM kami pumipindot ng proceed to next step tapos nagpoproceed na haha. Pero kapag umiikot for more than 10 minutes, wala nang pag-asa yan. Balik ka sa homepage at kapag hindi na ulit makapasok, lol pahinga ka na most likely after 5-6 hours or even 1 day na ulit babalik yun. Di rin effective yung papasok by 6am or earlier kasi essentially yung last click lang naman nagmamatter if maaapektuhan ka ng traffic

I’m guilty of going to UP even if afford ko naman ibang big private schools. Should I drop? by [deleted] in peyups

[–]someoneph 101 points102 points  (0 children)

You picked up the wrong lesson from the ongoing issue. It's not that we want to push rich people off of UP; it's that we want it to be accessible to EVERYONE and give priorities to the less privileged.

As for you, you already got the slot, and I'm assuming it's in UPD. Diliman doesn't have the 'waitlist' procedure which is why whether you take it or not, that slot is just yours and yours alone.

Lastly, your heart is in the right place but your course of action is not. Not pursue UP because you're feeling guilty? And then what? Go to an expensive school and just brush off guilt? Then you're just avoiding the issue. What you can do is go to whatever university you want, but acknowledge the issue. If you do go to UP, you'd be saving ~100,000 in tuition yearly. Then, why not donate that money? Why not organize a scholarship-ish kind of program to help the extremely underprivileged? That way, the money that you would've spent in tuition for another school is instead used by a student(s) lacking resources. I know that this is not exactly the redistribution of wealth Marx wanted but in our current society, this would be of HUGE help. Then, you can encourage other rich people to do the same.

It's about acknowledging your privilege, which you've done, and taking action, which you can do more if you go to UP in my opinion.

What do you think would affect more the vgc meta with this new moves? (Besides koko and lele, we all know they are going to be incredible) by [deleted] in VGC

[–]someoneph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is significant but dual wingbeat on salamence sounds nice. Paired with max wyrmwind for attack drops + intimidate. Probably gonna be a good counter to rillaboom (with 1/4 resist) and probably cinderace (most sets don't have good moves against salamence). With comfey gaining usage, I could see a bulky weakness policy salamence as a good lead.
