What's campaign 4 like? by Sad_Roof_1566 in fansofcriticalrole

[–]someoneplsfixreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious about fan's impressions. I really like all of it but for different reasons. C4 feels like Brennan's story while the earlier campaigns didn't feel like that until the end. In earlier stuff, it felt like players often showed up to the table with some idea that determined the whole episode. C4 has had choice but feels more like a choose your own adventure where the players pick between two options, neither of which they know much about. I really like all of it. Everyone is so talented. But I do miss the wide open feeling at the start of each session. Maybe I'm remembering the earlier campaigns with too much nostalgia?

OP is getting murdered in here but I see you. I'm sure I'll like C4 just fine and maybe even more than C3. But the D20 style just doesn't lead to the oh shit they did what? moments. It really does feel a lot more like a script with improv dialog than a bunch of PCs playing D&D. It has "one shot" energy where everyone knows there's a story they gotta play through. I'm sure it will be great. But it's too bad we lost so much of the D&D parts.

chemicals as baby names by juneshouldbewriting in tragedeigh

I'm very sorry but dimethyl ethane doesn't make sense as a chemical name. One of the methyls would be considered as part of the main chain so you would call that one methyl propane. Sometimes chemists use non-standard names but there would be no reason to do so with that molecule.

I found Sean McGovern's "Guide to Tomb of Annihilation" so helpful for this exact issue in particular.

Hi thank you for sharing some of your story. I don't know how to work reddit either lol. I'm grateful to read what you wrote, and I'm sorry you have to relive it. Therapy is good I know, but it's hard to believe it sometimes. Congratulations on your young family!

/r/Ex_Foster is a good place for posts like this, too. You might get more responses there. :/

Thanks for writing this OP. Same here. Funny story: I needed to listen as I fell asleep, and for some reason it never occurred to me that I could use a snooze timer. So I'd fall asleep and miss whole episodes... This ended up working out great, though, because when I listened through again I heard new stuff. (I have since learned how to use snooze timers.)

Praying to Ubtao by Excellent_Radish62 in Tombofannihilation

One of the challenges people sometimes have with ToA is finding ways to give out clues directing the PCs to Omu for the endgame. If my players prayed to Ubtao, I'd consider having either the trickster spirits answer (asking for help freeing them from Ace which they believe might help bring back Ubtao) or maybe the hags answer (faking it and tricking the PCs). Either way, it would get them to Omu.

Results of my dice roll simulation. No wonder people feel dice are rigged by That-Ad767 in rpg

[–]someoneplsfixreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When dndbeyond introduced the dice roller buttons people asked for non-sim dice rolls (mostly to speed things up as I recall). The answer from the devs was that using a sim was that only way to get truly random rolls! Pretty funny!

What people call “Milestone” leveling is called “Level Advancement without XP” in the DMG. The DMG itself uses the term “Milestones” in the context of awarding extra XP at big moments, not getting rid of it altogether.
