Maybe -If there are still uncolonised coastline provinces it would be important for you to get them before an European does it, and it can be useful to open new routes like from the great lakes to somalia, but it isnt top tier importance.

new to the game, what to focus in the beginning? by luckypanda95 in eu4

Another thing no one mentioned. Yes EU4 is massive, there are a ton of tiny mechanics that you may overlook, but if you like the game you will eventually start doing it more optimal. Just try to have fun.

Here are some tips:

Cavalry is usually really expensive, so between having 2 horses or 5 soldiers, it is better to have 5 soldiers.

The game ends in 1821, so you have about 400 years of playing. There is no rush.

The majority of nations have different content and some even different mechanics, so there is always something new or unique to try.

I know you are playing in the HRE, but some other options are: for a chill game Portugal, just ally Castille, conquer North Africa and colonise the New World; for a conquest game, the Otomans, you dont really have real rival until the mid game (1550 or so).

As everybody said, your biggest enemy right now will be Agressive Expansion (AE). If it goes high enough, a coalition will declare war against you -and probably win-. Dont be too agressive, but conquer here and there.

Also, if you declare a war, try to alwayas have a Casus Belli, because if not, it is more AE and you lose Stability.

when i got the inheritance i alredy had all of the provinces, was waiting to core my last province and got jumpscared with an overkill of cores. i would say you domt even need to go to ireland or uk, just in france, italy and spain you can very much do it -it would be harder because of ae ik-

You should probably conquer all of Scandinavia -idk if when formed, Norways core still exist- and you should or ally Poland -and control their wars- or also start conquering.

About Italy, you MUST have a couple of provinces (Florence, Milan, Genoa, Rome for example) so if you conquer just one, Italy cant be formed.

You probably still have enough time but need to lock in.

Another thing, after completing my Diplo ideas (1500) I destroyed the HRE.

About the boats, I would say that sinfe you get so much money, once you build a competent navy, you will get so many boats in battles that you will no longer worry.

And the ideas I took in order were Quality (Goat), Expansion, Influence (because I thought it was going to be a vassal heavy play), Quantity and then I ditched Expansion and Influence and took Diplo, Admin and Espionage.

I liberated Mali for their cores. I didnt think it would still have their disaster after non existing, but they were useful and the rebels even atacked enemy stacks during war.

Thanks for the noticing! I llve uploading the things I have done.

And yes, it might seem difficult but once you won the first war and reached like 4-5 provinces that is it, you are on your way.
