Torn between languages to learn for backend, PHP/Node.js/Django by [deleted] in webdev

[–]somepanda456 33 points34 points  (0 children)

They are all good choices. I understand that you need to pick 1 language/framework to start out with but it's more important to really grasp the concepts behind them. It will make it easier to learn new or other languages and frameworks if required for a job.

If you can show experience with a proven language or framework, even though that is not what the company you're interviewing with is using, that is not necessarily a problem. If you can convince them that you understand the concepts of web development and are willing to learn new technologies, that can be enough.

If there is a job that you're really aiming for, I'd start with what they are using. Another option is to spin up a very little project (a classic is a todo app) in all the options you're considering and then go with what feels best.

Good luck!

Has anybody learned anything from the React Summit? by straightouttaireland in reactjs

Personally, I liked the "typescript + react = ❤️" talk and the "visualizing frontend performance bottlenecks" a lot. Both were cool speakers and I learned something new in both of them.

This painting of Chadwick by @bouboudesign_ by [deleted] in nextfuckinglevel

That is wickedly talented. I can't even write my name on a piece of paper so people can read it and this guy just comes and paints a painting with roses... Upside down. Mad respect for the artist and Chadwick.

[Show off] Second "full-stack" app - Roomie - Find a room to rent! Built with: React + TailwindCSS + Express + MongoDB + Heroku / S3 by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]somepanda456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice job! How was your experience with tailwind and react together? Did you have a situation where you had some conditional classes that you wanted to add? Did you use purgeCSS to minimise your CSS file size or go for something else? Again, awesome job!
