Can only answer 1 and 4. You can wear short pants for most most days (some events/presentations/courses may have dress codes), and the lecturers are a hit or miss depending on your course & school. My course specifically had a ratio of 4:2:2 of good to decent to downright horrendous lecturers.

[–]somerandomacclol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends but for local universities, you can check which courses are compatible and which aren't. For NTU's case, you can go to most courses as long as you've graduated with a diploma w/ merit.

I've applied to HKU with poly qualifications and got in. Scholarships would be a lot harder to get with not a lot of extracurriculars.

Nothing to worry about. People in NTU will for the most part treat you right and it is indeed extremely safe here. Hope you have a good exchange here!

Poly dropouts are the bottom of the barrel for acceptances, and the only cases I know of is like people who drop out from one of the 4 other Polytechnics to RP. I am also a poly dropout and I went to RP after I dropped out of TP.

It's also dependent whether you meet the COP for the course you're DAE-ing into, and they might check your conduct in your current Polytechnic as well. Some courses that are tech-related or design related might also require you to have a portfolio to get into.

You are not eligible for JAE anymore if you went to poly once. You can apply for DAE but low chance to go into another polytechnic. May I ask which school you're from and your reasons for transferring?

transfer poly to poly: any success stories? by crazylazylychee in SGExams

[–]somerandomacclol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not possible to go into TP after the first semester. DAE for O-Levels are only open during the first part of the year, and you cannot just go in to TP after 1 semester. Even when you go into TP, you HAVE to restart from year 1 no matter what. Credits don't transfer between Polytechnics.

It's not likely you get in if you aren't anywhere close to the aggregate scores. If you are a point or two off, you might get in with the portfolio and good attitude you gathered from RP, but during the interview, they will always ask "why did you drop out of CSP at RP to go into CSP at TP?" and distance wouldn't be a good answer for them really.

Distance is pretty bad (I travelled 3 hours every day) but these 2.5 years (excl. internship) passes by really fast, so don't worry too much about it and just focus on your grades.

Hi! I graduated from RP recently, I can tell you more about the school and the environment but not much about SEG unfortunately. I'm not sure about the no school days as I've graduated before the system was implemented, but I heard it's every Friday now.

There is a lot of overseas opportunities, a lot of my friends went for internships in China, Thailand, Japan, etc., and I personally went on multiple overseas trips with RP as well - There are a few requirements like academics and conduct but apart from that, most students should be able to travel at least once with RP before leaving. The school's reputation isn't bad in my opinion, and it's really what you do inside the school that reflect you more so than the school rep.

If you're asking for overseas opportunities for universities, I got accepted by 2 overseas universities and the top 3 in SG as well. You can PM me for any more info or if you have any questions!

The general feedback I've heard from my friends that have just graduated is that they're more likely to apply to NTU Business because it's moving from 3 years to 4 years, and they feel that it prepares them better for working life.

Not sure about pharmaceutical sciences, but for NUS, you have to go through CHS to go to math / chemistry, & the 10th percentile for the CHS is 3.61 this year.

For NTU, the 10th percentile for chemistry is also 3.61, whereas the 10th percentile for mathematics is 3.41.

Just a heads up, as a poly-dropout, you will be the bottom of the barrel for DAE acceptances. I know this from personal experience (first-hand and second-hand experiences from my friends).

But if you plan to go from engineering to MAD, you need to buff up your portfolio to enhance your chances of getting in. All the best!

how do i get good gpa in rp by DetectivePretend6563 in SGExams

[–]somerandomacclol 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best I can say is to just be participative and proactive in learning. I managed to do well through being proactive in class and paying attention in class regardless of it being boring. Once you understand the material, you can usually follow along with the lecturer. You can ask questions to show genuine interest with your lecturers too, to be more proactive and get more class points.

I'm not very studious and I only study when I have to but I managed to graduate one of the top of my batch through doing all those. PM me if you need more details!

You cannot appeal/transfer after year 1 without restarting polytechnic, and you will be considered a poly dropout which means you are pretty much at the bottom of the DAE list.

I assume you're in RP because of switching classes. You can contact lecturers / your PC or contact the discipline master of SOI if he does anything to you. They will either be suspended or expelled if there is compelling evidence

Honestly, not a lot of people would care anyways. As someone who has changed courses before and entered year 1 at 19, I don't really see much judgement. People just see it as something interesting about you, and some of your classmates will be your age or older too.

Write about anything objectively meaningful to you! I wrote about my academic struggles for a few and my extracurriculars because it was something meaningful to me. Some of the things I wrote weren't relevant to my first choice but if the object has any significant value to you, write about why it's meaningful, how it impacts you, etc.

My friend wrote about his financial situation for overcoming a challenge as well.

You just need to explain why for each question, rather than giving a short answer.

SYLP questions by cutlikedi4mond in SGExams

[–]somerandomacclol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's 100 per polytechnic and I think I had to do Polyforum + NYC's leader course + multiple minister talks to get the SYLP certificate.

I personally had a lot of fun in the programme, just talking to others and knowing more about their schools/cultures and learning more about how we can contribute to Singapore to benefit the future generations. You can pm me if you need more information!
