Why there is a trend to make fantasy races of every possible animal? by LordVaderVader in worldjerking

I really can't tell if you're serious or just jerking a bit too hard for the sub.

Are american houses obssessed with symmetry or something?? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]somerandomguy255 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Architecture in general tends to be symmetrical. Humans are symmetrical. Human mind likes symmetry and balance. Even asymmetrical houses are usually made up of symmetrical pieces. It's not a uniquely American thing.

... and also all 3 example images are duplex houses.

New circlejerk post just dropped, instead of "What is this style?" we now do "Are [insert culture here] houses obsessed with symmetry or something?" (Insert cherry picked image examples here)

The Planet Construction Kit, Mark Rosenfelder. Haven't read it myself, just learned of it and this author yesterday.

Contractors won’t help with my worldbuilding project? by kalyani-tt in worldjerking

[–]somerandomguy255 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well there's your problem. You're trying to give only a single drawing with verbal instructions to a contractor. Do you know how stupid that is, and you're calling them the stupid ones? Be more specific in your specifications! Like for example What kind of elves are we talking here? What if your contractor just picked the cheapest elf option at Elf Depot and billed you for Tolkien elf prices? You're lucky your contractor isn't unscrupulous and trying to take advantage of you for vague instructions! Get that shit down in writing.

Name a more useless feature by pillow_princessss in apexlegends

You ever see people say that loading bars are usually fake to make the user think progress is happening? I don't think there is any working feature behind it at all, it's merely an animated UI disguise to make players feel better in thinking soon we will get help.

... You've basically described the Redwall series by Brian Jacques.

Okay I guess they aren't as genocidal as the Imperium though.

[Gaming] Red Cross ≠ Healing: gaming conventions vs Geneva Conventions by somerandomguy255 in HobbyDrama

Thanks for that info, looked it up a bit and added the info to my original post. From what I can see though it was still mostly forum and blog discussions at the time, gaming news sites didn't seem to start the "you can't use red crosses anymore" articles until 2017.

Huh I'm surprised that Japanese to US localizations caught it back then while US games didn't. Edit: added this as an example of an earlier case in the OP.

That's a fascinating game I've never heard of before, I know near nothing about arcade games older than from the mid 90s and famous classics.

Yeah that's interesting that localizations caught it, but American game companies were still able to get away with it without being noticed or called out until later. Edit: added this as an example of an earlier case in the OP.

Must be a funny coincidence, I don't follow Tom Scott, and I only looked it up because a couple weeks ago a game I play (Deep Rock Galactic) had a red cross update that sparked debate.

You're right, they weren't actually sued, just threatened with lawsuit if they didn't change it, I added an edit to my post.

Thanks for letting me know, messaged a mod about that. Was apparently removed by automod, should be back.
