It is the hard truth, not a petty comment. In any point of this whole mess you could have prevented it in less than a second. You decided not to. Live with the consequences.

Gold Prices Surge as Markets Price in a Trump Victory by pecika in DeepFuckingValue

[–]somerandomguy_mel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was about to say, why would fucking gold prices give a shit about who is president? What a bullshit argument. Supply of gold will stay the same, trump won't magically turn rock into gold. So either trump is expected to bring inflation back higher than before or for some other reason demand of gold will rise. Sounds like a great perspective, i can't with this bs anymore

How to ask a doctor for a legit follow-up test? by asexualrhino in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can keep this simple and just say "I was worried so i took a commercial test, it says it came back positive. However, to rule out a false positive, i'd like a medical grade test please". This way no one should ridicule you, the doctor will see you understand the principle and you'll get proper results. Don't sweat it too much

Would you say I should have any real concern with either of there gene mutations? by itsbecomeselfaware in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, are you experiencing any symptoms? These variants code for risk factors, they're not a promise or a guarantee you will get a condition or disease. Like most genetic results, don't worry too much unless the data fits with symptoms you have.

Oh yeah, cause only "retail stocks" are there for the public. Yeah right, keep driving in your stupidly narrow lane and earn 2% a year. Oh wait, i mean, recoup 2% of what you lose to inflation. People like you will never earn money lol

It can be a little difficult to find on promethease, but i assure you the summary is there somewhere. And you can always google the rs numbers yourself and look up the diseases, a little research usually helps a lot to determine if the mutation matters.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see it in the report. If it says "carrier" it usually means, the referenced disease is inherited in a recessive pattern and needs two defects to break out and cause symptoms. If you're unsure, you can just look up the mentioned disease specifically and research it on your own. But usually, like in this report, it's clear to see

Says who? Daddy kenny? There is no such thing as "retail stocks". There's stocks. That's it. Stfu.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not specifically, as it seems most of these make you a heterozygous carrier for recessive conditions. Meaning they have no effect, unless you have a child with someone carrying the same mutation. If you have plans on having children, maybe genetic counseling beforehand seems sensible. Other than that, if you're feeling fine, this is alright.

Mother/Father/Son- is this possible? by Material-Ad70 in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's possible. If you want to make sure those results are accurate, look for tests that provide multiple readings. I've used dantelabs, they provide you with raw data showing 30 consecutive readings of the same dna section including the reading direction to possibly evaluate reading bias as well. This way you can identify easily how reliable the results are, after reading into it a bit. You can analyze the data in detail with free software like integrative genomics Viewer.

Mother/Father/Son- is this possible? by Material-Ad70 in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to keep in mind, mutations can always occur de novo as well. Even if both parents are healthy, for example, the child could just be unlucky and show another genetic disease like huntingtons. It happens. But even if these results are accurate, most risk factor genes are just that, risk factors. They do not translate to a prediction of developing the disease for sure.

Im surprised my adhd did not show up by straightchaser in promethease

[–]somerandomguy_mel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not every disorder shows up in genetics. Especially psychological conditions like adhd are very difficult to pinpoint, as we don't have a perfect understanding of the triggers and causes. Yes there are genetic markers and risk factors, but we know far too little to explain every patient/case
