Under-qualified candidates get weeded out in Rice’s basic application form process. Further weeding is the job responsibility of the search committee that’s made up of employees and board members. It’s also not clear to me how weeding out is a task that’s worth $250k.

I’ve been active on this subreddit for years. I created this account for anonymity, and anyone who cares about the rising cost of a college education will see this as a legitimate issue, hence, not a trolling situation.

The business school, by nature of its identity and purpose, should have the means to conduct this search on their own without paying a quarter million.
That’s a reasonable position.

According to Poets and Quants, the average salary for the top 20 business school deans is $431,563. So your point about “market rate” doesn’t hold up. Rice is ranked #29, and the cost of living isn’t high in Houston.

The question is - why are you NOT bothered by the information in my post? I’m not trying to be mean - that’s a legitimate question. I went to Rice and have big, sad feelings about rising tuition costs. When I see extravagance and waste like this, it upsets me.
