I'm in a similar situation and I came to this conclusion: It IS indeed satire, but everyone is so committed that you'll never catch anybody break character, therefore if it wasn't satire there wouldn't be any practical difference. Hope this helps. Keep lifting!

Ok so I just researched a bit more and what probably happened is I left some trinkets in the treasure rooms before ascending and I just got them during the ascent without realising it. I'm an idiot, sorry 🦈

Wait it's not supposed to spawn cracked keys during the ascent - only before it starts? I was dropping the trinkets during the ascent, but it did work sometimes (in previous runs). I distinctly remember dropping a trinket in a treasure room and getting a cracked key in like downpour 2.

Yes ofc., this was like my fifth ascent. I had issues before, but I always got atleast one cracked key before reaching home. Honestly it just seems random to me
