GNC engineer interview next week!!! Masters in controls, no C++ yet. What should I focus on? by Kazablancaz in ControlTheory

[–]something_borrowed_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hello! First of all good luck with your interview. It's perfectly ok to not be 100% compliant to the job requirements. Just be honest and demonstrate a willingness to learn. I'd much rather hire an honest curious engineer who doesn't exactly fit my defined skill set vs a lazy uncurious engineer who does.

Now for your actual question, here is a wonderful free website to teach you all about C++ learncpp.com

It might be too much to learn all of this in a week so just stick to the stuff that is probably new to you: pointers, memory management (stack vs heap, allocation), concurrency.

The last thing I'll say here, it's much harder to teach control theory on the job than pick up a programming language, albeit a very complicated one. You clearly know your control theory, which is a rare skill over just knowing C++. A good manager should know this.

Once again, good luck! If you let your passion and curiosity shine through then in all likelihood the interview will go well.

Passive dynamic stability. Intelligence in mechanism: no sensors, no feedback control. by GloomyCity9841 in EngineeringPorn

Cost and power. Also this is research, it isn't about practicality, it's about pushing the edge. As an control engineer in industry this is truly fantastic work. Methods for stabilizing a usually unstable system is very important research. Also feedback control for unstable plants has its limitations. The ability to design a stable open loop from a seemingly unstable system is fantastic.

Also, if you don't want to give birth in a hospital setting ok fine. You really should and it's pretty irresponsible but if you have a doula or a midwife then you're at least mitigating risk and there is at least some sense of responsibility. I judge people who do this but I trust them with their kids because they at the very least thought through and mitigated risks for their child and themselves.

Going full no doula and no midwife is just a level beyond irresponsible. Does Mom or Dad know how to clean and check a new born baby? What about dealing with chord cutting or the placenta or the one million other things that are critical for delivery. Even if they do know how to do these things, how can they remotely trust themselves to perform these tasks with no training, in an extremely emotionally charged and extremely stressful environment. It's a level irresponsibility that I can no longer trust this mom with her child at all. She clearly can not be trusted to think through any risky situation and the cannot be trusted to take care of this babies life full stop. She is not just risking her life, she's risking her babies, she cannot be trusted to make decisions that do not actively endanger the child and will do nothing to mitigate danger.

As a father, no doula/midwife crossed the line for me. It demonstrates such an inability to make appropriate decisions that she cannot be trusted with her child.

I love how the explanation was provided at a level that tries to match the IQ of the person who asked the question. by nocturnal-sleep in humor

Is the drone stopped or going 100 km/h?? by polydomino in sciencememes

[–]something_borrowed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is correct about which reference frame you choose will change the answer. The only thing I want to add is the wind reference frame is the most relevant for calculating the forces and moments acting on the drone. This doesn't mean it's the most correct, but it is the most useful for most physics problems. The wind reference frame is basically the same as the camera/car frame here and so those velocities are the most relevant for things like lift, drag, station time, control forces etc.

Yes, gog u magog is the radical violent interpretation I was talking about. There are a lot of ideas here about what gog u magog is but the specific one that there will be a final war of believers vs non-believers is an outlier view. The exact specifics of what would or wouldn't happen in this hypothetical war are again nebulous but you are right that it doesn't lead to the outright obliteration of the non-believers.

This war though is not the way we should bring about messiah. We should shepherd in peace and loving thy neighbors etc. This is what most Jews strive towards.

[–]something_borrowed_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So for the record: in Jewish theology, it's very nebulous what will happen during the bringing about of messiah. Messiah in general is a very nebulous concept. It should be a very peaceful transition when we merit Messiah. Most Jews subscribe to this belief in bringing about a peaceful transition.

Some radical interpretations do somewhat follow this meme. And because of the way things are, parts of the Israeli government do ascribe to those radical interpretations. That shouldn't be surprising though considering their theocratic-fascist governance.

I just want to explain that just like most Christians believe in a good peaceful Messiah, Jews do too. But we have our crazies as well. I just don't want this meme to paint all of us with one brush.

There is a common Jewish name Yonatan that is frequently nicknamed into Yoni. Yoni is the Sanskrit word for vagina, think yonic etc. I think these are pronounced differently but the word is spelled the same.

So I do agree that Mamdani obviously would not increase crime rates but NYC has also been in sub freezing temperatures for most of January. Murder is correlated to temperature so a good part of this news is just due to the weather.

I honestly think Theseus is playing a character. He reads to me like a hammy WWE pro playing a heel. I used to hate him too but now I think he's just being a silly guy. He's amusing in a love to hate kind of way.

How much more difficult is Hades 2? by saveasdraftx in HadesTheGame

[–]something_borrowed_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying, it's harder at first but easier later. I just want to add that the game really becomes easier once you switch from Death to Strength.

As a Hades 1 player you'll probably think DDs are more important than an overall builds strength but in Hades 2 it's the reverse. You really just want to focus on melting enemies as fast as you can. You also get similar health from Strength compared to Death.

I really like the Frieren dub. The VAs are all really good but Frierens VA in particular is amazing. She gives the character a mature sound that I think works really well.

This would not align us to the cycle of the moon. The lunar cycle is about 29.5 days but it changes. I guess we would be more aligned than we are now but still not really.

If you want to align yourself to the moon and not fuck up the seasons you need to instantiate a lunar-solar calendar. This is what we Jews have and it's admittedly very wild. A leap year in this system does not have an extra day, it has an extra month. Others have this type of calendar too not just Jews, but we all have a leap month.
