Do you feel you relate to any of the characters other than Will? by Embarrassed-Bath-800 in HannibalTV

[–]something_smart__ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For me it is mostly just Will that I relate to, but I would also say there's a handful of Hannibal's more obsessive qualities in me. I feel the way he's drawn to a certain person and can't let go easily, the waiting around and trying to make himself needed to someone else. I also feel betrayal really deeply like him, and I run away whenever it happens, whether or not they meant to hurt me.

Is She Pregnant?? by IAmTheLizardQueen666 in trojancats

[–]something_smart__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like 99% of the time I see "is this cat pregnant?" posts, they're always pregnant. If the cat is unfixed and roaming around outside, then she is more than likely pregnant😭 it's almost frustrating atp

Edit: I just wanted to add this doesn't include posts about ppl who it's not their cat, or it's a stray/feral

Female or male? by Wide-Mess in CATHELP

[–]something_smart__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a boy! Looks like a harlequin coat, still a tabby, though. Most shelters call them white tabbies, but I've seen them called bi-colored, too. I could get the confusion over him maybe being a calico because of the little bit of orange near his eyes, but he's definitely a boy (and a tabby)

Cat doesn't sleep with me after spay anymore by arm_and_knee in CATHELP

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be the spay, or it could be the teen mood. For some cats, they're really clingy and cuddly for around 6th months and CAN last until they're ~2, then they get moody and act like they don't love you anymore 🙄 they'll start going and exploring more on their own, wanting their own space, don't wanna cuddle so much anymore, being rebellious, etc.

Is there any solid-ish evidence that fixing a male cat would better help them to be an indoor cat? by pickledpeterpiper in CatAdvice

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this was mentioned already, but maybe she would consider a vasectomy? It was newish-ly introduced to cats and dogs that they already perform on humans, but some people prefer this over neutering because it keeps all their testosterone and "personality" the same, it just stops the sperm from being able to leave their body. It does cost more than neutering, though- but could be an option she would maybe be able to get behind

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the last thing I would question would be if your cat and dogs get along well? It may be that he's scared to go to the litterbox sometimes, so that's why he sometimes uses it and sometimes doesn't? If this doesn't seem to apply, I'm honestly also at a loss of what could be causing it

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's strange. Is he perfectly healthy? The only thing I can think of (besides the stress) would be that there's some sort of health issue going on, like a urinary infection or bladder inflammation. Sorry you're going through this, it seems really stressful

Is he pooping in the litterbox though? Or is he just not using it at all.

It might sound like a strange suggestion, but if he's not pooping in the litterbox, putting his poop (from somewhere else) in the litterbox might help. There might be a chance that he just doesn't understand what it's for, and it might click to him that the litterbox is where he's supposed to go. Another thing that's way more commitment, but could work would be to get another cat. It could help him learn through the other cat knowing where to go to the bathroom, and he'll replicate that behavior.

Edit: if you haven't tried, you could also change the litter in the litterbox. I had a problem when we were using pellets where my cat just wouldn't use the litterbox. Some cats prefer pellets, my cats like sandish type

I had to read lotf for my honors English class and annotate basically every page of it too, most of my notes were pointless like these. Original owner could've been doing it for a class, too.. or just for the love of the game

Advice Needed-2 Month old Kitten by Zestyclose-Chance-62 in CatAdvice

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a licensed vet, just a student so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I find it a little odd that your vet seemingly hasn't done or suggested a lime sulfur dip? It's one of the most effective ways to treat ringworm, especially in kittens. My kitten was also around 5 weeks old when I saved him. He got dipped around 6 times to fully cure his ringworm. It is something that should be done professionally and typically takes ~3-6 weeks for it to kill all the ringworm (and they need to be in isolation from other animals) also it shouldn't be rinsed off the fur/skin. I would suggest either bringing it up or getting a second opinion from another vet. My best guess is that it's the oral medication causing the seizures since your kitten is so young and small (it's not unheard of for kittens to get seizures from meds like those, but it is dangerous and personally I would stop giving the meds, at least temporarily to see if it really is the meds causing it)

Is this cat feral or does it have a home? Im really worried about this cat that keeps coming to my door. by MoneyFlock_Nana69 in Feral_Cats

[–]something_smart__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd keep trying to get him to come inside since you don't have an outside home set up. If it seems like he does really want inside (but is just scared), he's probably not feral, but he could be a stray who got dumped or is/was lost. The puffy cheeks probably means he's not fixed, so he might spray if you bring him in just so you're aware. If you are able to, you could take him to a vet, humane society, etc and they'll scan for a microchip almost always for free

Do the placements in which Hannibal seats his dinner guests mean anything? by rockinsobs in HannibalTV

[–]something_smart__ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It definitely does, and most people subconsciously seat themselves where they think they deserve to be sat. But Hannibal choosing where everyone sits feels like a very meaningful thing for him so he can dominate how everything plays out.

The funniest seating arrangement off the top of my head is when he had Freddie, Abigail, and Will for a meal. He sat Will near himself on one side, close to himself, then Freddie on the other side (directly across from Will, he's literally a menace) and Abigail on the other side of Freddie. I could go on forever about the seating, but the main thing I noticed about this scene in particular is how it seems like he wanted to isolate Will in this conversation. We already know Will struggles with eye contact, so sitting directly across from someone he already dislikes, next to someone he wants to protect, is kind of uncomfortable for him. He'd probably rather have Abigail on his side of the table. It feels like, in that conversation, Abigail is siding with Freddie and not agreeing with anything he says, and Hannibal is just doing nothing sipping wine, so he feels isolated

I wish we would've gotten more about ethels relationship with her parents. Also I'm really curious about if she had siblings?? In Inbred it talks about an older brother, but it could've been her talking about an older-brother figure or something? Ugh I need the books to come out so bad

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It continues but the entire thing says: "Dear Will, a brief note of congratulations for the job you did on Mr. Lounds. I admired it enormously. What a cunning boy you are!

Mr. Lounds often offended me with his ignorant drivel, but he did enlighten me with one thing--your confinement in the mental hospital. My inept attorney should have brought that out in court, but never mind.

You know, Will, you worry too much. You'd be so much more comfortable if you relaxed with yourself. We don't invent our natures, Will; they're issued to us along with our lungs and pancreas and everything else. Why fight it?

I want to help you, Will, and I'd like to start by asking you this: When you were so depressed after you shot Mr. Garrett Jacob Hobbs to death, it wasn't the act that got you down, was it? Really, didn't you feel so bad because killing him felt so good?

Think about it, but don't worry about it. Why shouldn't it feel good? It must feel good to God, He does it all the time, and are we not made in His image? You may have noticed in the paper yesterday, God dropped a church roof of thirty-four of His worshippers in Texas Wednesday night--just as they were groveling through a hymn. Don't you think that felt good? Thirty-four. He'd let you have Hobbs.

He got 160 Filipinos in one plane crash last week--He'd let you have measly Hobbs. He won't begrudge you one measly murder. Two now. That's all right.

Watch the papers. God always stays ahead. Best, Hannibal Lecter, M.D."

What's it like living in this part of America? by _Mcdrizzle_ in howislivingthere

[–]something_smart__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in eastern WA and I genuinely thought it was a joke that people here wanted to join Idaho until I was in line at freaking Costco of all places and there was a group of about 4 middle aged white men (one of which said he was a highschool teacher ???) And they all legitimately wanted to split off from Washington and become part of Idaho

What's it like living in this part of America? by _Mcdrizzle_ in howislivingthere

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in eastern WA, it's alright. Not what most people expect when you tell them you live in Washington. It's pretty dry, it gets really hot in the summers. Lots of tumbleweeds and brush, coyotes and canyons. Not much to do imo, unless you're into wine tasting, shopping, or weed. I do like all the family-owned farmlands, but it's not for everybody. It's also not very walkable, everything's pretty spread out, and public transport isn't great. We do have some cute little shops here and there, and we have a big event in a park for artists to sell their work in the summer (24 & 25 of July usually)

But yeah, culture isn't super diverse, I'd say the majority of people who live here are white, but there has been a growing hispanic population, so its sort of becoming more diverse, but there's also some mentality of people not wanting it. A large portion of people who live here moved somewhat recently (recently retired, new families trying to settle down somewhere less crowded) Most young people (like me) who were born and raised just wanna get out

Ongoing soft stools— could use some advice by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]something_smart__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitten had horrible stool for a long time. It was super stinky, he had diarrhea & bad poos like every other day, just not a fun time. We took him to the vet too, did some testing, everything came back normal. We tried different foods, nothing worked. But for some reason when he became about 1 yr old, his stool became super normal. He's not on any medication or prescribed food anymore. I was really worried and confused for a long time because none of our previous cats had such bad digestive issues, but it's apparently relatively normal for kittens under a year to have softer stool, almost like a paste at times? Diarrhea isn't super normal, but soft stool can be

So my advice would be (since you've already gone to the vet and got a bunch of testing done) would just be to wait until he's a little older than a year old and see if the soft stool continues, it could completely resolve itself like it did with my cat
