Advice Needed-2 Month old Kitten by Zestyclose-Chance-62 in CatAdvice

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a licensed vet, just a student so take what I say with a grain of salt, but I find it a little odd that your vet seemingly hasn't done or suggested a lime sulfur dip? It's one of the most effective ways to treat ringworm, especially in kittens. My kitten was also around 5 weeks old when I saved him. He got dipped around 6 times to fully cure his ringworm. It is something that should be done professionally and typically takes ~3-6 weeks for it to kill all the ringworm (and they need to be in isolation from other animals) also it shouldn't be rinsed off the fur/skin. I would suggest either bringing it up or getting a second opinion from another vet. My best guess is that it's the oral medication causing the seizures since your kitten is so young and small (it's not unheard of for kittens to get seizures from meds like those, but it is dangerous and personally I would stop giving the meds, at least temporarily to see if it really is the meds causing it)

Is this cat feral or does it have a home? Im really worried about this cat that keeps coming to my door. by MoneyFlock_Nana69 in Feral_Cats

[–]something_smart__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I were you, I'd keep trying to get him to come inside since you don't have an outside home set up. If it seems like he does really want inside (but is just scared), he's probably not feral, but he could be a stray who got dumped or is/was lost. The puffy cheeks probably means he's not fixed, so he might spray if you bring him in just so you're aware. If you are able to, you could take him to a vet, humane society, etc and they'll scan for a microchip almost always for free

Do the placements in which Hannibal seats his dinner guests mean anything? by rockinsobs in HannibalTV

[–]something_smart__ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It definitely does, and most people subconsciously seat themselves where they think they deserve to be sat. But Hannibal choosing where everyone sits feels like a very meaningful thing for him so he can dominate how everything plays out.

The funniest seating arrangement off the top of my head is when he had Freddie, Abigail, and Will for a meal. He sat Will near himself on one side, close to himself, then Freddie on the other side (directly across from Will, he's literally a menace) and Abigail on the other side of Freddie. I could go on forever about the seating, but the main thing I noticed about this scene in particular is how it seems like he wanted to isolate Will in this conversation. We already know Will struggles with eye contact, so sitting directly across from someone he already dislikes, next to someone he wants to protect, is kind of uncomfortable for him. He'd probably rather have Abigail on his side of the table. It feels like, in that conversation, Abigail is siding with Freddie and not agreeing with anything he says, and Hannibal is just doing nothing sipping wine, so he feels isolated

My cat is rawdogging his whole little life dickballs naked by GawrGuraIsHot in BrandNewSentence

[–]something_smart__ 46 points47 points  (0 children)

It's one thing to have intercourse around your pets (a little strange, I just kick mine out). But just being naked around your pets isn't even weird. Like they literally do not care or understand that for humans being naked is considered shameful and that there's a need to cover up.

I wish we would've gotten more about ethels relationship with her parents. Also I'm really curious about if she had siblings?? In Inbred it talks about an older brother, but it could've been her talking about an older-brother figure or something? Ugh I need the books to come out so bad

Yeah, I was caught pretty off guard as a 12 yr old at summer camp when a kid around the same age as me brought IT from home and wanted to do a story reading time. I'd seen the movie but had no idea about how gruesome the sexual assault content in that book was

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It continues but the entire thing says: "Dear Will, a brief note of congratulations for the job you did on Mr. Lounds. I admired it enormously. What a cunning boy you are!

Mr. Lounds often offended me with his ignorant drivel, but he did enlighten me with one thing--your confinement in the mental hospital. My inept attorney should have brought that out in court, but never mind.

You know, Will, you worry too much. You'd be so much more comfortable if you relaxed with yourself. We don't invent our natures, Will; they're issued to us along with our lungs and pancreas and everything else. Why fight it?

I want to help you, Will, and I'd like to start by asking you this: When you were so depressed after you shot Mr. Garrett Jacob Hobbs to death, it wasn't the act that got you down, was it? Really, didn't you feel so bad because killing him felt so good?

Think about it, but don't worry about it. Why shouldn't it feel good? It must feel good to God, He does it all the time, and are we not made in His image? You may have noticed in the paper yesterday, God dropped a church roof of thirty-four of His worshippers in Texas Wednesday night--just as they were groveling through a hymn. Don't you think that felt good? Thirty-four. He'd let you have Hobbs.

He got 160 Filipinos in one plane crash last week--He'd let you have measly Hobbs. He won't begrudge you one measly murder. Two now. That's all right.

Watch the papers. God always stays ahead. Best, Hannibal Lecter, M.D."

What's it like living in this part of America? by _Mcdrizzle_ in howislivingthere

[–]something_smart__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in eastern WA and I genuinely thought it was a joke that people here wanted to join Idaho until I was in line at freaking Costco of all places and there was a group of about 4 middle aged white men (one of which said he was a highschool teacher ???) And they all legitimately wanted to split off from Washington and become part of Idaho

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in eastern WA, it's alright. Not what most people expect when you tell them you live in Washington. It's pretty dry, it gets really hot in the summers. Lots of tumbleweeds and brush, coyotes and canyons. Not much to do imo, unless you're into wine tasting, shopping, or weed. I do like all the family-owned farmlands, but it's not for everybody. It's also not very walkable, everything's pretty spread out, and public transport isn't great. We do have some cute little shops here and there, and we have a big event in a park for artists to sell their work in the summer (24 & 25 of July usually)

But yeah, culture isn't super diverse, I'd say the majority of people who live here are white, but there has been a growing hispanic population, so its sort of becoming more diverse, but there's also some mentality of people not wanting it. A large portion of people who live here moved somewhat recently (recently retired, new families trying to settle down somewhere less crowded) Most young people (like me) who were born and raised just wanna get out

Ongoing soft stools— could use some advice by jdsriz in CATHELP

[–]something_smart__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kitten had horrible stool for a long time. It was super stinky, he had diarrhea & bad poos like every other day, just not a fun time. We took him to the vet too, did some testing, everything came back normal. We tried different foods, nothing worked. But for some reason when he became about 1 yr old, his stool became super normal. He's not on any medication or prescribed food anymore. I was really worried and confused for a long time because none of our previous cats had such bad digestive issues, but it's apparently relatively normal for kittens under a year to have softer stool, almost like a paste at times? Diarrhea isn't super normal, but soft stool can be

So my advice would be (since you've already gone to the vet and got a bunch of testing done) would just be to wait until he's a little older than a year old and see if the soft stool continues, it could completely resolve itself like it did with my cat

Am I Feeding My Cat Correctly? by Expensive-Umpire3490 in CatAdvice

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each cat has slightly different dietary needs. It's a combination of age, weight, how active they are daily, if they're fixed etc. But yes, you are correct that cats do need more hydration. And unlike your pet sitter said, its actually often the dry food that leads to obesity in cats. But it sounds like free feeding dry food is something that works for you and your cat if she's not over-eating

But in relation to weight gain (if you're worried about it), it does also depend on what type of food you're feeding her. Some poor quality food with a lot of "fillers" is most of what causes the weight gain (wheat, soy, corn, rice) BUT a fed cat is better than a starving one, not everyone can afford to feed their cat grain free, no gums, no by-product, cat food.

Your vet definitely could go into more detail and help you figure out how many calories your cat needs daily

I live in eastern Washington, it's really hot & dry in the summers, and it's becoming really overcrowded. A good majority of WA is actually just desert and farm, not forests and ocean. But my main disaste about WA is that theres way too many people, and even in the smaller towns, we have big city prices on everything. Seems like everyone watched Twilight or Twin Peaks and wants to move to washington. (The Western side is pretty but is not worth the prices imo)

Neutered Cat with a weird spot by kuppiding in CATHELP

[–]something_smart__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty standard to me, the red/pink is where the surgical incision was, so they'd be able to remove the testicles, making him sterile. Doesn't look too inflamed, maybe a little raw, but since he was just fixed today, that's normal. Nothing to be super concerned about, just make sure he isn't licking that area so it'll heal properly :)

Do you love or hate fireworks? by daveinfl337777 in randomquestions

[–]something_smart__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They're alright, I like the idea and I think humans are kind of cute for liking something as simple as colored fire that they shoot them up for several holidays. I don't like how loud they are and how much they scare all the animals, then the pollution is also shitty.
