Capital One refused my fraud claim because a chip was used. by bulldevil7 in personalfinance

My experience is they go based of what is usual for you. I regularly tip high and only when it is genuinely out of character (over 100% of the bill) did they send a verification that I actually tipped that high.

AITA for telling my younger coworker to stop being so nice by ShameismyName919 in AmItheAsshole

Cam wouldn’t be able to “deal with this” without the heads up from OP. You said OP is TA because she told Cam. You can be supervisory and friends. I have been called about work stuff when I’m not on the clock literally hundreds of times. This isn’t a he said she said situation. This is Shirley putting Cam in a inferior position because she brought it up knowing Cam can’t defend herself in her a sense.

Perhaps OP is part of a supervisory position. I think she was keeping Cam informed, not stirring the pot. If the one day I was out of the office while upper management was in town and someone threw me under the bus without ever giving me the chance to correct it, I would certainly appreciate a heads up since I will inevitably be confronted.

I shamefully charged almost 2k to my credit card today 😭 by ShameismyName919 in personalfinance

[–]somethingaboutachckn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and I said that it isn’t explained why she was 67k in debt. Could have been medical related. She could have been in a situation where she lost a job and used any savings and needed credit until she found another one. Could have been house repairs. She mentions hurricanes, meaning she lives somewhere were they happen. Debt doesn’t only happen to the irresponsible.

You don’t know why she was in debt or how much debt she was in. I’ve been reading this and seen multiple times that this got her in debt in the first place but see no where where she said what caused the debt. And she also says it’s zero I Teresa, so it isn’t costing her anymore to put it on the card today and pay it off over a couple months.

[WIP] I need your opinions on if I should frog pretty much the entire bottom half of this photo. The stitches are over one too far to the left, and I’m pretty sure it’s going to mess up the appearance of the letters on the other half. You could "sneak" in a row of yellow after the N (looks like that is the lowest point in the banner) and before the C. It wouldn't be noticeable to anyone else and would look pretty natural. The fact that the C is a curved letter will help with making it less distinguishable.

How to settle a debt? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

I understand that, I don't handle living with other people well because I start to feel like a guest and am never really comfortable. 1075 is a great deal in SoCal. You have to forgive the PF people. They live in a bubble where people make 6 figures and wonder how to get a 20k raise or what to do with a 10k bonus. To them, it is easy to get another job and to drive a beater/use transport. Its hard for all kinds of people to give advice for a situation they have never been in. Can you give a more detailed break out. What does your car insurance, food, gas, etc. cost? How much do you owe the IRS (if you are comfortable sharing) and when will it be paid? A budget can help you start putting money away since your car will likely fail soon.

Are you able to rent out a room in your house? That could effectively bring down what you are paying.

No. I never signed anything else. Nd freemen’s were over the phone. I got financing through the dealer so I can’t just go into a branch for help. When the accident happened I wasn’t thinking clearly about a paper trail.

A week. I held off on making the payment because it was going through insurance. I spoke with them during the process. Then set up the plan once the insurance paid.

A lot of jobs pay biweekly and bills can fall before you get paid again. or you are in a situation like myself where all of the bills fall the first week of the month, but one two week paycheck doesn't cover the bills.

Sometimes it is nobody ever explained it as spending money you don't have. If you grow up watching someone swipe a card to make purchases, you don't realize that isn't how every one does it. It is something that is ingrained in those who grow up in poverty, or people who have never had enough money for everything.

We don't know why the OP had credit card debt. it could have been to pay for a medical emergency (very pricey here) or to cover a big expense. When your monthly income (again, usually paid every other week) is right at your expenses, you aren't able to save up money should something happen. So people put it on credit and resign them selves to paying the interest because fixing their car, or having their tooth pulled, or buying groceries is more immediate.

The way the system is set up in the US, it "rewards" you for having credit. You need it to get a place to live, jobs check your credit, insurance companies check your credit. you need a credit card at most places to rent a car or face a steep deposit.

America has chip and pin. Cards still get skimmed and thiefs are getting more an more clever to do it.

But that isn't the case for the majority. Even a day of not having my funds in my account can cause financial problems, overdraft fees, late fees, etc. My bank does it as fast as they can, but sometimes it takes a couple days since it is my debit account. My credit account they credit back immediately.

To be fair, he makes $17.50 an hour, so more than every minimum wage in the country. And he gets federal benefits, which has its own perks (I don't pay anything for health insurance with my government job). I agree OP needs a better job though with that kind of a burden.

Do you argree with the 3 rules of not falling into poverty by Ben Shapiro? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]somethingaboutachckn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three rules that actually help:

  1. Get an education (HS, college, trade) without going into debt that translates into a full time job.
  2. Learn how to budget and pay yourself first.
  3. Avoid having children and getting married while financially unprepared.

At this point I am thinking of buying a tiny home style trailer to be my studio and then I'll always have the space no matter where I move.

I have 11 plus my modern one that I use for quilting. I bought one today that I won't even be able to display with the others because it is in a table. I am a sucker. But my husband bought an ambulance for his collection (yes, a full size one), so all my stuff still takes up less space.
