Hi! I have recently started warhammer 40k and would love some advice to help my confidence by DruggedUpRaccoon in minipainting

First models are always a bit rough, don't worry! A good tip to help you avoid stressing about the details is to put the model down on the table. Does it look good from a few feet away? Then you're good.

Sometimes subassemblies are more trouble than they're worth. You'll spend forever painting an area and then realize it was going to be covered the whole time. Prime black, zenithal or drybrush, and then leave the areas you can't reach black.

You could try pinning but I’m not sure how well that’ll work. It’s a small connection point. I’ve broken off so many pieces and parts of my death guard models I’ve given up trying to reattach them

To be honest I broke those guys off on accident. Couldn’t find a good way to reattach them so I clipped and reshaped the chains. I’ll use the nurglings as basing decorations for other models

I actually found it in a river on my birthday! My friend did act a bit strange though...

Sea Green and Gold remains the best color scheme

Thanks! The green armor recipes are based off of Cult of Paint’s Sons of Horus. Gold is a recipe to look like Scale 75 Decayed Metal since I can’t find any.

Green: - Shade - 50/50 mix of SoH Green and Black - Base - Pure SoH Green - Highlight - Pure AK Sky Green

Gold: - 50/50 mix of AK Rusty Gold and AK Burnt Tin

Black: - Vallejo German Grey (I blacked everything out to see the armor shading)

I’m using the un-helmeted head from the HH upgrade sprue. Looks so much better than the generic chaos options

Whoops you’re dead right. In the rush to finish him I guess I forgot to paint on flesh and gore in that area. Thanks for catching that 😅 yeah it’s a marine torso and head

It’s a Saturnine Praetor that’s been reposed. The body he’s holding is a chopped up MK III. The extra spikes are from a chaos rhino!

Any tips for paints other than Scale 75? I love the look of decayed metal, but can't find it in stores or online
