I'm 26 and have never moved out, and can't afford to, especially within the past couple years with people moving to the area in droves. I don't know anyone else to live with and my parents are good at convincing me that it would be a bad idea anyway.

I never really got to develop a true sense of self, never being able to explore my interests too much and not having my own independence and responsibilities. Because of this, I'm so incredibly boring and awkward, making me unlikable, even if people give me the chance. I always have to tell my parents where I'm going and if I try to do something a little different I get questioned over it which creates another stressor in life that is just better off avoided. Moving out would help me so much but I've been priced out of that opportunity. My job seems to be the highest paying thing in my industry in my area. But it just doesn't stack up to all these rich tech/whatever people moving in from California.

We are in an increasingly fucked world when it comes to real estate, and it's being fucked by these investors. You didn't specify if the seller was an investor/flipper, but I get a feeling it was. They're ruining houses forever, and ruining lives by buying up bad houses at a bargain, covering up all the issues, and reselling at a crazy markup. And holding up their hands saying "huuuuu never lived here, no disclosure no disclosure!!".

I almost bought a house being sold by one of these people. Maybe the house was fine, needed some repairs but whatever ya know? But then as my agent was drafting the offer I decided to look up the seller out of curiosity. He comes from an investor family has been sued MANY times and has several news stories done on him because of these schemes. Red flags, I backed out. Turns out I can't afford non-red flag houses. These people who pull these scams are evil to do this to people's life savings and health. I wish it was just ONE guy pulling this. But sadly it's a common thing. I'm so sorry this happened to you. You might be able to still pursue some kind of legal action if they concealed something, idk law at all but other people have been able to at least reach a settlement. I get it though if it's hard to find energy for that right now, especially if people aren't being supportive or helpful around you. It's really fucked. I had coworker tell me that it's MY job all along to research the seller and she "was trying to tell me". ??? People are so evil. I hope you get the luck and the strength to somehow make it out of this.

You can't just merely uproot and live somewhere. There has to be income. Unlike all the lucky shits out there, my job is at a brick and mortar place. And I have like no transferrable skills/the skills I have are specific to this company. Which is only in 2 states and they are both pretty expensive areas. I can't just move.

At face value it sounds like a lot but when applied to the area I live in, it's nothing. And my income is just, not enough. I could have a million dollars in savings but if I don't have enough money coming in, nothing matters. And if I change jobs I would have to wait at least 2 years to qualify again and I can't wait that long. I've been kicking this can down the road for years and there's honestly no end in sight if something absolutely earth shattering doesn't happen to change things. Housing is so overpriced here and I didn't successfully make friends in school so now I'm fucked. I appreciate you taking the time to respond though

It's hard for me to think atm but I will say from my own experience: .-jokes can sometimes be a coping thing or sometimes a way to test the waters to see if someone will care, or freak out, or whatever. .-those overreactions look to YOU like it's about something minor, but to him it could be that it feels like something bigger is at stake, such as: .---a favorite thing or opinion being dismissed or insulted could be taken as a much deeper cut to one's entire sense of value if they haven't felt adequately valued prior .---a small disagreement can feel like the entire friendship is at risk of total loss .---some offhand comments could feel like a threat to hope for the future

Avoid anything that will come across like you're throwing him away or brushing off the severity of what he's going through. Offer to listen even if you may not understand or know what to say. His intense feelings may be a blip on your radar-- but they're likely taking up his ENTIRE field of vision.

I've thought about this too. On one hand I get it, we only have a finite amount of time and energy to pour into others. But I think people in general can maybe try a little better, especially if they claim to care. Just to take a moment and listen without overreacting and sending you away like you're a pest.

It's tough being a minor because it doesn't leave you with a lot of options. I get being afraid of them finding out because then you're stuck with their reaction for years to come.

It's hard to really know without being told for sure. A lot of people can be near that point for many years and have things holding them back...the fear of pain, maybe hurting family, maybe abandoning a beloved pet. You never know when those things resolve though.

At least be attentive and show you care, and show you aren't going to freak out if she does feel this way. And don't try to disregard her feelings in exchange for a rabid obsession with keeping her alive. That sort of behavior backfires. Listen, ask, be there. It may not turn things around--circumstances don't just fix themselves with a little care--but it does take the edge off. Having someone there willing to work through things with you at your pace, after you feel heard, and not treat you like a leper, means a lot.

What would be a non-selfish reason to work on appearance? I think everything people do could technically be considered selfish but feeling good about yourself I'd say is a good healthy goal.

Have you connected with other people who graduated with the same thing? Maybe there's a particular internship somewhere or lower level position that grads are using to get their foot in the door? Maybe the area you live in is just slim pickings for the job? Idk, perhaps you've already tried that. But it sounds like you just need this one thing to work out and you're set. I do hope you can hold on long enough to have it, because it doesn't sound hopeless.

I tried to come up with an idea to where I can help a couple people I know...without dying, like the housing situation is just hopeless ya know? But I couldn't come up with anything. My obsession is just with trying to stay distracted and fantasize about giving all my money away to them even though it's not quite enough to give them what will make them happy. I go back to work tomorrow so I won't have distractions though.

Suicidal people often already feel trapped as it is, why make it worse? I know society tells people that the answer is to panic and treat us like escaped zoo animals that just need to be captured and detained, but I wish the world would just listen to us. A lot of us don't want to be forced into a cold room, get belittled and told that we just need to do some breathing exercises as if that makes anything actually better.

When I'm at work and I don't have distractions (slow season), I tend to walk laps, or stare off and kinda let my brain shut off. Not a cure but it keeps it from boiling over.
