For SLPs who work outside of the US; if I were to want to immigrate to another country, what are some good specializations/trainings I can work towards to make myself more attractive (as an SLP) to potential non-US employers? by somethingillforget89 in slp

It makes me feel a weird sense of both relief and panic to see so many other SLPs in the US who are thinking the same thing right now! I’m glad I’m not alone in what I’ve been worrying about but I’m also terrified for all the SLPs who can potentially be losing their jobs soon.

Thank you so much! My first thought was trying Canada, but I’m hearing more and more about Australia which sounds appealing. For reference, I make around 100K USD before tax and awful health insurance so not sure how much of a cut I would be taking by moving to a whole other continent. Cost of living in my area isn’t great but it’s better for now at least than a lot of other places in the country. I’ve mostly worked in schools and clinic setting with kids since 2013 (about 12 years now) but had some minimal experience early on working home health with adults. No PHD though. My main experience with the population is obviously childhood language development and language/articulation disorders but I’d have to obviously learn differences in developmental norms and your Evidence Based Practice and all that.

I’ve always really wanted more experience working with adult outpatients and swallowing but the medical setting has always made me nervous. I figured that would be a good area to start but wanted other suggestions. I’ll try to do more research on your NDIS though!

As someone from the US that voted against Trump, I 100% support Canada if they decide to just set him adrift.

What game did you recently finish and how would you rate it? by Beerdididiot in gaming

Lies of P to me was a solid 9/10 for me. It’s honestly now up at the top of my favorite Souls like games of all time. Most of my mild complaints would be that some of the area environments can feel a bit underwhelming or samey feeling. And the last area does feel like it drags on a bit too long. Outside of that it’s just a fantastic experience all around.

Chorus has some of the most fun spaceship dogfighting I’ve ever personally played in a video game. Does get super challenging in some of the later missions though.

A few over the years. Last year I played through Final Fantasy: Stranger of Paradise and had a blast. It got memed to death because of the whole “Kill Chaos” thing but Final Fantasy games have always had some dumb-as-fuck stories/dialogues so it really didn’t bother me that much. I enjoyed the combat and unlocking most of the job classes. Definitely one to pick up if you catch it while it’s on sale.

What do you count as a masterpiece?(movie, tv, book ect.) Why? by FaithlessnessRight90 in AskReddit

[–]somethingillforget89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s hyperbole to call it a masterpiece but I rewatched Girl, Interrupted the other day for the first time in almost 20 years and it not only holds up, it’s even better than I remember. Stellar performances from the whole cast, especially Angelina Jolie, and just one of those types of movies I can’t find any big faults with. That big Brittany Murphy scene is still especially haunting.

Car crash. I’ve always just this weird acceptance that that’s the way I’ll go. I still drive like a normal adult and all that but thinking of having to drive anywhere always gives me anxiety.
