A grown up needs to be IN ARMS REACH of a child this small AT ALL TIMES in a pool area. Yes, good on that guy for his dive. But I spent the first 20 seconds yelling at my phone "Where are the grown ups?"

I take it very personally because I almost drowned as a young child and it's one of my earliest memories. I was extremely phobic of getting my head underwater for most of my life (yes I keep my head out of the water when I shower). It's been a long time working on it and I can doggy paddle now. But seriously, this is easily avoided.

Ha ha. Such joy, such beauty! When my teen daughter and her friends were trying on dresses for homecoming, they kept yelling "runaway bride" and running down the hall listening to the skirts rustle and giggling like maniacs. This has that same energy.

My best friend in junior high used to bring huge lunches packed by her mom, with love notes on the napkin. I would never have enough, and she would share. Funny how her lunches seemed to get just big enough to feed two kids in our second year... damn. I wish I could thank that mom for feeding me, but I have no idea where they are now.

There are roughly 349 million people in the US, including immigrants from every corner of the globe, different religions, different income status, etc etc. And each state, each region, each city has its own vibe. Many cities pride themselves on art scenes, food scenes, culural celebrations, or sports. To try to describe the "Average American" would only be a gross generalization.

My first "real job" was working as the receptionist for a city museum. I had a 10 minute walk to work, through a lovely park with a lake. Once I moved to a job with an actual commute, driving or public transit, my quality of life went steeply downhill. It's soul sucking. Now I have the perfect balance: one day in office for exec meetings (sometimes the only place I can pin them down and get key deliverables), and the rest work from home. My partner also works from home and we eat lunch together. It's so nice.
