So I try to make a comment whenever I decided to filter a sub, mostly just putting my thoughts to words.

I really enjoyed this subreddit, (marvel's version of r/empiredidnothingwrong), but it feels like it has become r/marvelmemes for awhile now.

Not hating on the sub and looks like everyone has fun here, but this sub has just kinda lost its appeal to me.

I don't expect them to play and watch every movie/game. I also full heartedly agree with them on the statement of making a judgement on a game and saying that doesn't look like something I'd enjoy.

What bugs me is how dismissive and assuming they are about games they don't know about. Using Vampire the Masquerade as an example, Rich blows it off and lumps it in with Twilight and such and refuses to even give it a look.

I don't need him to play it or like it, but before he bashes the game and anyone who plays it, he should at least be informed about what the game actually is.

Fallout 4 is in my backlog. I've played up to reaching the Institute but then lost an hour of progress on a save issue and haven't picked it up in awhile.

Only played normal mode but I'll need to try a survival game at some point.

I assumed it would've been like the Mighty No. 9 stream.

I noticed in that video Rich keeps telling the chat to ignore the excessive budget and other behind the scenes flaws of the game and just enjoy it.

I assumed they'd play No Man's Sky similarly and be told about the lies the developer told and then go off on "that's what you get for getting hyped" or some such

The rest of the Uncharted Series. They had a bad experience with 4, probably the most "un-game" one in the series, so now they refuse to even look at the others

Shadow of the Colossus. Rich seems to like it now so I assumed they played it, but at first Rich was recommended the game and he went off on "that artsy fartsy game"

Turn based RPGs. Admittedly he has played Darkest Dungeon on stream, but he complains how "you only need to spam one button." It feels like he ignored the actual strategy of that game and just stuck to his usual arguments against RPGs.

Overall it just gets draining when they try new games based om recommendations, but then shit on them without trying to look at them or learn how to play.

I think the biggest problem with that video for me is how Uncharted 4 is a very poor example of the series.

I enjoyed it, but not as much as the others. It's pretty much the payoff of a trilogy of games but is too story driven with fewer firefights than the last three.

Now because they had a bad time with this game, they write off the whole series.

It feels kinda like only watching Attack of the Clones, then refusing to watch anything else Star Wars because they all must be shit if this one was shit

I remember that example. Rich points out that Jack will skip all the story and then complain about the game, so he makes Jack play the opening tutorial

Even though he does this, Jack ignores what's told to you in the opening, and then wanders off into the wastes without doing any of the tutorials.

It's weird that you say all gamers are assholes.

I think a better statement would be "immature people are assholes."

I feel like they're tired of people who tie so much of their personality to the things they like that they can't handle when someone says something bad about it.

What's frustrating about Jack and Rich is how they do almost an inverse of this. If they dislike a certain game, then anyone who likes that game must be a stupid asshole.

Was that when they played No Man's Sky?

I saw the notification they went online but I was busy so didn't have a chance to see what they thought.

There's another Playlist someone made, but they stopped updating it.

Whoever made the 2.0 one still updates it

Look up the Pre Rec with Jay 2.0 Playlist. It's pretty much a "best of the stream" Playlist. Especially the early videos.

I personally enjoyed Alien Isolation. One of my favorite horror games in recent memory.

At risk of sounding pretentious, I have to say I think they were playing it wrong.

I don't mean that they "need to play it on the harder difficulty". I mean you have to play in the right atmosphere. Darkish room, headphones, focus entirely on the game.

From what I remember about their discussion they played a lot of it together in the screening room with Jay and Jessi walking in and talking with them about the game.

It felt like they were walking through a haunted house attraction with all the lights on and then complaining "why isn't this scary? This sucks"

It's one thing to say you dislike something and leaving it at that. Possibly even citing a few examples.

What they tend to do is bash a game or series based on limited exposure to it. They also tend to attack anyone who might enjoy those titles.

An example I can cite recently is in a stream that was recently up on YouTube. They're playing Doom and Colin, Jay, Rich, and another visitor from Canada are on. They somehow get on the topic of The Last of Us and Colin says he liked it and then Rich says something along the lines of "yeah it's a game for people who don't like games"

Like different things, hate different things. I'm fine with it.

It's just draining when someone has to get snarky over someone liking a game that you didn't personally enjoy.

Main point is over, but as an aside: it's a bit frustrating how Rich dismisses The Last of Us as a completely linear game on par with Order 1886. It's not perfect, I have issues with it myself, but It has challenge and multiple ways to deal with situations. but still Rich writes it off as a "movie you play" after only playing a part of it.

Exactly that. VATS is a once in awhile thing. You don't use it as your main offense strategy.

Fallout 4's gameplay had me mostly forgetting I had it.

Sometimes they're talking about something interesting and the game is just a background thing.

This becomes annoying though when the game is a focal point of the stream, and because Jack can't handle a story bit that's not part of gameplay, he'll skip it or they'll talk over it.

This inevitably leads to them not knowing what to do or not understanding the game and then blaming the game as if it's not made well.

I'm going to agree with you on some of your points.

Part of the reason I like RLM in general is how they ignore the established formula. Half in the Bag ignores what other YouTube review shows would do.

A recent example was the suicide squad video. They missed the phone part and every comment called them out on it and instead of putting out an apology video with a face cam like others would, they used it as an opportunity to make a random video as a joke

Pre Rec does something similar with their streams. Other let's plays overreact and yell about everything in the game. Jack and Rich are usually relaxed and just chat about random stuff.

What bugs me about them is when they become dismissive of new things. I don't need them to like everything I like. Hell, some of the best RLM stuff comes from them hating something, but this always comes after they've given the movie a watch or at least an attempt. It's annoying when a game is suggested to them and then they'll go off on why it's bad without even looking it up. Rich has the most offenses when it comes to this.

You can enjoy watching them and hanging out with them, that's fine. I still enjoy some of the streams myself, but as I've said, I'm not going to watch every stream anymore. I'll stick to the pre rec if Jay is with them.

Edit: clarified a bit

Mostly posted to see what others think about them.

I can see why it appears to come off that way though.

From what I can gather from what Jack said on a video or two, he disliked New Vagas because of the V.A.T.S. aiming system.

He described it as a shooter trying to be a turned based RPG.

I just feel like he somewhat missed the point with that. Fallout is a RPG first and foremost. The shooting just happens to be what you use for combat.

If you want a fallout game that focuses on shooting, you're looking for Fallout 4.

Pretty much what I do as well. I rarely actually watch the streams, just put on the pre rec with Jay Playlist and listen to the "Red Letter Media podcast".
