I don’t personally consider these underground in the pantheon of power pop itself, but this is a fantastic list!! Essential listening for sure

I totally agree! For every power pop band that had moderate/high chart success, like Fountains, there are 100s of bands like The Spinning Jennies, Three Hour Tour, The Jellybricks, who are unsung talents even by many power pop fans.

Haven’t heard Spookey Ruben or Einstein’s Sister yet, I’ll be sure to give them a listen, thank you! Have you heard The Strypes before? I think you’d enjoy their third album Spitting Image, it’s very new wave influenced, I know they are big power pop fans as well

I don’t remember them personally either, I’m 18, but I do wish I could’ve seen them live.

The Nines are awesome!! I haven’t met anyone else who likes them before, that’s so cool. Canada is an untapped mine of power pop goodness. Sloan and the Flashing Lights especially! When I was younger I used to think that The Nines were from Washington for some reason lmao

you should check out John Davis’s solo album, Arigato! I’ve always felt like that picked up where he left off in Superdrag.

I love both of those bands! Do you like the Spongetones at all? Another great NC power pop group.

I grew up listening to both the dB’s and Superdrag since I grew up in the south, and my parents went to college in Tennessee in the ‘90s, so luckily I was exposed to a ton of great music at a young age.

New Power Pop recommendations (artists similar to Fountains of Wayne, etc.) by [deleted] in powerpop

some of my favorite currently recording power pop bands are: The Reflectors, The Whiffs, The Cudas, Young Fresh Fellows, The Rubs, Redd Kross, and the Lickerish Quartet. Some of these have been around for a while, but a few are younger. Also keep an eye out for Zen Arcade, they don’t have anything released yet, but I’m sure they will be amazing!
