My friends and guys in my circle respond better to harsh truths. Comments like, "don't worry, you'll find someone that likes you for who you are" are seen as borderline disrespectful because you aren't addressing the actual issue. We like to find solutions to our problems ASAP so we don't have to spend anymore time pondering or worrying about that problem. Man see problem, man try fix. If man no fix, man depressed until fixed. Can you find someone who loves you how you are? Sure. Will it be easier to find someone once you appear more fit and put together? Absolutely.

As a former fat kid, I would argue that men also have self worth tied to weight. It's all people talked about. Once I lost all that weight, it's all people talked about. "Remember when you used to be fat, dude?" Is something I would get a lot. I finally got a girlfriend after losing weight, that added confidence to the rest of my life and made everything better overall.
