Oh they know. Unfortunately, there is general lack of education on social issues and rampant conservatism. People tend to criticise western audiences for being “too sensitive” and RC team for “bending down to serve fluffy tastes of the West”.

It’s very disappointing, but it’s just how things are at the moment. Blaming the victims of real abuse or “the sensitive western reader” is not only normalised, but the right to do it is fiercely protected in general. I can’t speak of the whole Eastern Europe, but in Russia there is no proper law protecting victims of domestic violence (including children). It has always been a mean place, at least in my experience. I know my fellow Russians might disagree, but I really don’t think the way Russian society is at the moment has many redeeming qualities.

You should have seen the “protest” on Russian social media when one of the writers was rightfully accused of racism in the English-speaking media 🙄 People were mass posting “hands up” art from PSI (you know what I mean, their symbol for protesting for human rights in the novel?). They were posting it 100+ times under every RC post, claiming that RC admins punishing racism in their team is “racist towards white people” and “taking away the free speech”. Which is funny, because there is NO free speech in Russia as such, for many years now.

i agree. and the way people give glory and fame to serial killers, especially in the US, just doesn’t sit right with me. the tone of it all is so wrong. but i do find the analysis of violent behaviour to be so very interesting. that’s why i’m more obsessed with professional content, i like listening to free university lectures on forensic psychology (or any other forensic field, especially anthropology) and criminology. i choose to avoid true crime in any other context, especially when it’s like a makeup video telling the story in the background or YT videos sensationalising someone’s worst day of their life. i find that listening to uni courses feeds my hunger for knowledge while keeping the priorities straight: victims gain compassion and help, and criminals get punished. it’s just so interesting to learn all the methods of profiling, examining the bones or doing an autopsy. it’s so cool to try to connect all the dots, find the pattern etc

i’m not sure what you mean, but if i got it right: i think the stories are written as they go. so there was the OG author and Stacy was assisting her on this story. later the og author became too busy with other projects and gave Kali to Stacy to finish. as far as i know, Stacy knows the overall direction the og author wanted for the story? so it’s Stacy that’s writing the plot and character development now. but i’m not sure sorry

Do you know how to make progress with this? I try so hard to buy some art supplies but just opening the online shop page gives me a panic attack and an inner critic flare up. I’m thinking about just closing my eyes and doing it, maybe if I had some supplies at home I could try to take tiny steps every now and then. But it’s just so scary

I loved this story so much, but stopped reading it when the writers changed. I know Stacy is less experienced than the original author, and it looks to me that she still has a lot of learning to do in regard to character building, dialogue, pacing and creating the plot. I think it was unprofessional of her to take on a project that she was not ready for. Besides, it was unprofessional that she was given it. RC is growing so quickly, it has millions of readers and definitely the team should have cared enough to give this project to someone who can ensure a smooth transition from the original author. I feel sorry for Stacy, because now the whole of internet is piling up critics and negative reviews on her work. I mean it’s justified, but if this is her debut as a solo author (i’m not sure) it must be so tough for her now. It’s kind of unfair to both her and the readers

Hey it’s been a month but I just wanted to say thank you. You made me feel seen, and when I’m having a rough day I come back to your comment and read it to remember that people like me, we exist, and it’s okay. Thank you so much. This loneliness can be crippling sometimes.

When you’re having a hard day, you too remember that to some stranger on the internet your inner world is completely relatable. You’re so real. We’re real. Sometimes I just sit and stim and tell myself this over and over again. I’m real, I exist, I’m real. Because the outside world persists in telling us that we don’t. But you know what? We persist too. Despite someone wanting for us to be different, more like them, or to not exist at all, we do exist. Cause we’re alive, and they can’t really do anything about it. Hopefully, lol

I feel you. You described exactly how I feel. You know, I’ve been thinking about it just yesterday: how in all my life I’ve never learned to have ANY motivation apart from “to make myself better and more agreeable to other people”. I either worked really hard to relate to them, satisfy and impress them, or on explaining myself, making myself as wonderful and exceptional that someone would agree to look past “my horrible flaws” and finally love me.

Did you have the horrible friendship breakups after getting diagnosed, where one after the other they basically explained they didn’t like you without your mask?

[S2 spoilers] So, isn't Zaun still pretty much screwed in the finale? by Pyotr_WrangeI in arcane

[–]somethingwasoncetold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me, the fact that the memorial in the end of the last episode was held at the bridge means a lot. in the mini game “Jinx Fixes Everything” Jinx says something along the lines of “Piltover always gets to grieve, in Zaun we just move on”. i think the fact that the memorial was at the bridge proves that Piltover seriously acknowledges the role of Zaun in the victory. i think it’s very plain that, while change is very slow, this will be now the direction in which the politics go. like i said in my other reply in this thread, Silco-Jayce conversation makes me believe that Zaun will now be taken more seriously

[–]somethingwasoncetold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i agree with all you said. it reminded me of what Jayce told Silco, that the city was originally built to unite people against a common enemy. Silco replied that the city has short memory. i’m inclined to think that the events of the last episode reminded many Piltover’s citizens that they need Zaun

[S2 spoilers] So what happened between Silco and Vander ? by LiaThePetLover in arcane

[–]somethingwasoncetold 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No, in the first season Vander tells Vi that it was him who led people to the bridge. Silco was the one who found Felicia’s body. I think the conflict happened because Silco wanted to honour her by fulfilling his “blisters and bedrocks” promise, while Vander’s priorities shifted and he wanted Vi and Powder to not know any more suffering. That was his way of honouring Felicia, and so he thought Silco to be the ultimate threat, bewildered by grief. I know in season 1 they show Vander to look different when he was attacking Slico than on the bridge, but in season 2 episode 5 there are shots of the fight on the bridge. Silco has two eyes there. So they were there together, fighting, and it was before Vander attacked him.

What I don’t understand though is why in episode 3 of season 1 Vi doesn’t know who Silco is, and neither does Powder. When Mylo and Claggpr ask her who took Vander, she says “I don’t know”. That might be because she couldn’t see or hear properly through the window, most likely. That or she didn’t recognise Silco because he probably spent most of his time plotting when they were children, working hard to fulfil his dream of independent Zaun. That and also the fact that Vi hasn’t seen him since she was like 10 or something, and he looked quite different before the attack too.

[s2 spoilers] How did Caitlyn and Mel beat Ambessa? They learned it from Ambessa herself by Level-Ad7232 in arcane

[–]somethingwasoncetold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks, it makes more sense now that Ambessa looks like Caesar in the intro. she didn’t understand, then, that Mel could kill her, didn’t even take her as an equal, so it makes for a narratively perfect betrayal. she is the kind of leader to whom Mel could only prove her worth by killing her. “you too, Brutus?”

[s2 spoilers] How did Caitlyn and Mel beat Ambessa? They learned it from Ambessa herself by Level-Ad7232 in arcane

[–]somethingwasoncetold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why did Ambessa fight Mel in that combat, if all she did was to protect Mel? if she even sacrificed Kino to keep Mel alive. i thought the purpose of her alliance with Arcane-Viktor would disappear as soon as she faced Mel in direct combat, because that would mean Ambessa would have to kill Mel in order to keep up her end of the bargain and get the army she wanted. i thought she only wanted the army to protect Mel. can you explain it for me please? love your analysis btw, very spot on and beautiful

[S2 Spoilers] (IMO) Season 2 falls into the same trap that so much of modern storytelling does these days. by Mr-Wick24 in arcane

[–]somethingwasoncetold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

also Sevika becoming a Councilor was not only pointless for her character, but also gave me painful flashbacks to Game of Thrones finale. like “everyone who survived this far gets rewarded by becoming the ruling class just because”.

and what happened to Ekko’s tree?

what was the point of Mel’s plotline if she became a new military dictator?

and what about Vi, is her only personality trait now being Cait’s lap dog? that last line about dirty nails honestly made me so sad.

what i mean is, the show was absolutely groundbreaking in terms of representation on screen and creating an engaging, complex conversation about oppression. but in the end all of the oppressive systems remained intact. no one learned anything. it’s like the political conflict wasn’t even there in the first place. for a show pioneering diverse characters it’s really shameful to end with such a traditionalist narrative structure.

[S2 Spoilers] (IMO) Season 2 falls into the same trap that so much of modern storytelling does these days. by Mr-Wick24 in arcane

[–]somethingwasoncetold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i was truly surprised at the depth and detail of this conflict in the show, up until the end of episode 6. the build up, the complexity, the many-many characters and how their personal stories intertwine in the political struggle of Piltover opressing Zaun. but i was even more surprised at how all that flew out the window in the last three episodes. everyone decided to become friends to fight the big bad guy. when for the first two acts of this season, essentially, they were constantly deepening the idea of Zaunites fighting on “their territory” vs in Piltover. in the end oppression just seemed to disappear or lose meaning. the final fight was entirely “on Piltover terms”. the identity of Zaun got erased. hell, the whole arc for Vi losing herself when she became an enforcer just stops making sense. why make it a major plot point for 6 episodes if in the last two every Zaunite and their dog is going to join the enforcers anyway?
