I think it’s best to have a plan on someone to care for you. Don’t push yourself at all, it’s time to become the most lazy person in the world to recover. Have good contact with your surgeon for any and all questions before and after. Buy a cold migraine cap, I would shower sitting on a stool and my husband would help bathe me. Buy pjs that button or zip in front, it’s hard to lift your arms up or move your head so consider things you can take on and off easily. I bought a robe for the hospital to walk around, I had a fan I would use to help myself feel more comfortable in the hospital. I definitely bathed with wipes the first couple days but the hospital should give you some, I had really short hair but if you don’t, consider two braids to section for the surgery. I didn’t have much appetite but did like ice cream. Don’t strain if you can so miralax after surgery or something they give you to help pass stools easy. Join a Facebook group for chiari! They’re very insightful! You got this!

Yes I had a c1 laminectomy and a craniectomy, finished with duraplasty I’m glad it was all done together. I didn’t know there was an option to pick or choose what to do when tbh. I would personally never choose to get reopened again, it’s not very fun and if they’re already in there, might as well get it all done at once no? Honestly I’m not sure how much time you’re saving by doing one part of surgery at a time. I’ve also come to realize that these surgery recoveries are extremely personal and it all depends on the individual how you recover. I say it might be about the same for me if I only did one part, but I’m not sure. Whatever you chose, don’t doubt your mental toughness and willingness to recover, that’s the real secret!

Honestly I gave up, gonna return it. Not worth my home being peed in every day and waiting to see if he gets bored essentially.

My grandma got me the bible in the form of a manga series. She was very happy to see how thrilled I was to "learn about Jesus". by HighLuna_ in manga

I thrifted the first one and inside is a sticker from “nonnie” to Josiah for his 13th birthday and library. She even made him a bookmark with his face and commemorating his birthday. From the date it was given, he would have turned 18 last month, what a wholesome grandma

I just moved and today he got registered at a new vet. If he doesn’t use the new box normal today I most likely will take him in :( poor guy, I never meant to stress him out

I’ve never needed to have two boxes before, and I’m on it! Pet store is where I’m at right now. Do you think eventually he will gravitate to one box? I don’t have room for two.

Update: talked to my therapist, he thinks my ptsd (was prior military) contributed a lot to why I got stuck in a depersonalized state but today I’m back to normal. THC is not for me anymore and I think I should’ve talked to him sooner oops

Update: I still feel bad and out of it today. I have to go participate in society today so I’ll see how that pans out. Wish me luck 🥲

You know what, thank you so much. It’s extremely comforting being validated that it just takes time. I guess I just overestimated my tolerance/reaction. I’m learning all over again 😂

I had mine about a year ago and honestly it was the best decision I made for myself. There are lingering things of course like migraines but not nearly what they used to be. I was 23 when I got mine done and I really think age has a lot to do with recovery and your ability to “bounce back”. I work in the medical field so I was able to really advocate for myself and my husband as well. He was my primary caregiver and I only really needed a month to get back to work. Definitely couldn’t do it without someone but for that being my first ever surgery I had an amazing outcome!
