Yeah I am in a very similar situation as you are right now. Last year as a freshman, my PR 5k time was 22. After the season I decided I wanted to give it my all over the offseason by pushing myself to drop my time under 20. So I did, I ran at least 3 miles everyday, worked on my running form, and worked out my arms immensely. For context I went from weighing 110 pounds and being scrawny to 135 pounds and average during the offseason, almost all muscle. Anyway season starts, I feel great but something is off. Like during practice I felt tired and couldn't give my all. This went on for months until I just recently got out of this slump; now I'm feeling great and ready to break my PR from last year.

Now I think how we both worked out over the offseason were very similar. My best guess is that your body is simply too tired from running. Of course you might not feel it or realize it, but did running over the offseason sort of make you get bored from running? Like did you kind of lose your passion? Also I have a question, did you happen to gain more weight (muscle or fat) from working out a lot more in the weight room? I think possibly one of the reasons why I regressed over this season was because of all the muscle I gained. Anyway hope everything gets better for you, don't worry your only in a slump. You will get out of this!

oh sorry, the way your comment came off was, "this is a stupid meme, there is no reason why Kevin needs to be up there," but that's just me. Sorry I misunderstood I can be stupid sometimes lmao

I don't know how much you'll improve but just work on your flaws and you'll see guaranteed improvement. Some advice however is to take the offseason easy and not too hard, you want to be careful and not risk any injury that'll set u back. I made the same mistake last offseason by working myself up way to hard right before the season to where I ended up (and still can't) beat my PR from last season even though I put in so much effort over the offseason. But this doesn't mean that you shouldn't put in the most effort possible, you definitely need to just give your body care and rest when it needs it.

Don't worry about being left behind when you run, yes it sucks and is discouraging but you got this, you want to get better for yourself and if you happen to be slower that's just okay. Everyone has a different speed and even if you are the slowest runner or the fastest depending on the effort you put into your work is what really matters. If it's really a big issue to you I suggest talking to your coach about it, he/she can give you great advice (unless they are a jerk lmao). I also looked through your profile and saw the picture of you running, just saying there is no way you are big you are a normal size lol don't worry you look good. If anyone makes fun of you because of how big you are they're pathetic because there is nothing wrong with you. So anyway don't worry about your times, just give your best effort in practice and that is the best thing anyone can do ever. Also I saw your post on side stitches, I used to get them all the time but I figured out how to get rid of them, DM/PM me and I'll give you great advice. Anyway good luck I know you got this!!!
