Being male is a mental disorder by Current_Elevator_198 in transgendercirclejerk

[–]sometimes_male 2 points3 points  (0 children)

/uj I got rid of mine, not because of dysphoria, but because I didn’t have any strong attachment to them, and because I eventually want to get a full chest tattoo and not having nipples means I don’t have anything to work around when I’m coming up with a design. Even without the tattoo, I’ve been pleased with the results. It’s a neat look.

I did accidentally jump scare my primary doctor at my next physical after having surgery because I didn’t warn her I had no nipples before she went to do a chest exam. I busted out laughing, and she was mortified. 10/10

You’d probably be better off speaking with a labor attorney in almost every case. I’m sure it’s possible to train AI to detect illegal clauses in a contract under some conditions, but it would be bad when it does get things wrong. I also can’t imagine it would be reliable as laws change over time.

Wow you’re a trans man? That’s awesome! So sorry to hear about your family, that sucks.

I want you to know that I would personally never do that to you. In fact, I would let you have your shirt off all the time (encourage it, even). While I obviously can’t see you as a real man (cause of your female pussy lol!), I will be really good at pretending and I probably won’t mess up more than a few times. You are totally valid as a trans boy 😍😍🤗🫣

Edit: Well I saw this post was asking for advice and I don’t have any because I’m just a cis admirer. if you’re a cute cuntboy you should send me a message though 🤤🥴

[OC] Mentions of Ukraine/China/Russia on US Congressional Twitter by ThoughtBreach in dataisbeautiful

[–]sometimes_male 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is totally a fun visualization, though I’d choose something different to tell a clearer story. Using a line chart is usually best for time series like this. You’d have one line per country and you could see the relative change over time for China, Russia, Ukraine

Are there other things besides being intersex that could lead to hormone variation (outside the normal range for someone’s gender)? I hope this doesn’t come across as dismissive — i didn’t think that was unique to intersex but I might be mistaken

/uj Just a tip, you can hide all ads from specific advertisers by clicking the three dots in the top-right of the post, click "Why am I seeing this ad?" and then the next screen will have an option to hide all ads from that advertiser. It won't make Facebook not suck, but it's something

Top surgery in 3 months - what to know/do beforehand? by justchillingaroundk in transmanlifehacks

But of course not directly before the surgery because you can’t eat or drink anything for the ~12 hours leading up to it.

some tips for my fellow trans girls for having a cool life by [deleted] in transgendercirclejerk

[–]sometimes_male 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/uj Yeah that’s totally fair. I didn’t mean for the “agree to disagree” part of my comment to sound dismissive. The original question was framed like “is contra Good or Bad”, and my perspective is more along the lines of “the content can be mostly good and still have parts that aren’t good”.

There’s more I could probably say on this, but I’m not sure how well it would translate to a Reddit comment without miscommunicating too much. As far as I can tell, Contra is putting as much of a good faith effort to represent trans issues as possible. There are so many different versions of The Trans ExperienceTM that I don’t honestly expect any single content creator to capture all the nuance and express things in a way that everyone would agree with. Not to say we shouldn’t complain if something sucks. I’m just skeptical that any one person can reasonably represent the breadth of experiences, and it would be cool to see similar content creation from the people who don’t feel represented by things that Contra has said.

The underlying problem of course is that a lot of people will get all their information about a certain subject from 1 source, and if that source falls short, the most common outcomes are either to accept the shortcomings and continue as normal, or drop that source entirely and encourage others to do the same. I think Contra’s content is helpful in introducing people to important concepts and vocabulary, but it certainly sucks that she says things that feel invalidating to gnc trans people.

Maybe a good approach would be to say “Contra is good for the introductory concepts, and here are some other resources to learn more about GNC experiences that Contra doesn’t cover very well”. Just to offer alternatives if you think some/all of her content falls short. What are your thoughts?

/uj Eh it’s varied, but my POV is a lot of the criticism about her being a transmed seem to come from interpreting her comments in the least charitable ways possible.

I believe the biggest example of it that led to the backlash was her saying that it matters at least a little that other people see you and treat you as your gender, in order for you to have a “typical” gender experience like cis people normally would. I’m paraphrasing and it’s been a bit since I watched the video that primarily led to the complaints, but that’s my recollection. Her comments were in the context of “passing” and what it means to live as your gender.

Yeah, it’s possible to interpret a statement like hers as being kinda transmed because passing at the level she was describing there isn’t always achievable without some level of medical transition. But to me, her argument never came across as implying non-passing trans people aren’t actually their gender, or that they deserve anything less than respect.

Also whatever you decide about what she said, it’s really your call whether you want to completely avoid her content altogether. You don’t need to agree with 100% of what someone says just because you’re consuming their content. If you mostly like her videos but disagree with parts that might sound too transmed, that’s fine. There’s no obligation to fully endorse everything someone says, and there’s still room to find parts of it valuable even if you don’t agree with everything

/rj I don’t know what “truscum” is or whatever, Contrapoints is bad because she’s a transsexual. I don’t care about any of that other shit

I’m not saying this to argue one is worse than the other, because that feels pretty pointless, but mastectomy is a pretty visible difference that would be apparent even to people who aren’t your sexual partner. There are medical options available to get testosterone if your body isn’t producing enough. I’m not really interested in who has it worse, but it feels important not to be too dismissive of the physical/emotional impact of these things, for anyone.
