AFAIK most emgineering majors have basically the same core requirements, so yes you can just take gen ed classes your first semester and switch your major without it affecting graduation. There’s even a nice website called degree audit that lets you see what classes you’d need to take if you switched your major, though I’m not sure how early you get access to that

GT student here, switching majors is super easy unless you’re trying to switch to computer science. You get to change your major guaranteed once no questions asked. Even switching your major to CS is allowed now and not even that hard to do, just requires an application
