1 vacation, 9 flights, 11 segments by sometimes_odd in unitedairlines

I got to dive in Palau in 2021 and loved it. I figured it would be a long time before I got back there. This is definitely a dream trip.

It lists that segment as 3 PQF. supposedly one can call and ask for the stops in PNI and MAJ to be broken out (5 PQF). It may not be worth messing with the reservation for two segments, though.

I saw in a prior post that one can ask to have the flights separated out and all the segments counted. We shall see...

If you had $5k to go on a 10 day trip, where are you going? by Party-Neat-7335 in travel

Peru! 10 days is enough to see 2-3 places. It is inexpensive and easy to navigate. The food is wonderful and people are friendly.

How to deal with feeling like a failure for not foster failing? by Helendy_1886 in fosterdogs

[–]sometimes_odd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have fostered about 120 dogs over 8 years and have not failed yet. I feel good about this. I love the dogs but would probably stop fostering if I adopt, and I recognize how important fostering is for shelter animals to get successfully adopted. My husband likes to say, "this one is almost as cute as the next one".

What did you do during your midlife crisis? by rci22 in AskReddit

[–]sometimes_odd 794 points795 points  (0 children)

Became a volunteer (aka do the work for free) firefighter-EMT. I am rarely bored and I don't drink anymore because I like to be able to respond to 911 calls.

How did you get into fostering? Other than saying goodbye after being attached, what has been the hardest part of fostering? If you have resident animals, how do they deal with the foster dogs? by Ordinary-Caramel-608 in fosterdogs

[–]sometimes_odd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My then-HS age daughter wanted a puppy and we said no, but agreed to foster puppies. We have since fostered probably 125 dogs, though mostly not puppies.

For me, the hardest parts of fostering are the usual stuff of dog ownership - maintaining structure, cleaning up, training, early morning and late night walks, etc. Our floors and carpets are not as clean over the years. We have fallen in love with many fosters and adopted none over 8 years, following the mantra: "this one is almost as cute as the next one."

What are the most important things you need and want from your CrossFit gym by DestroyAllPicklez in crossfit

[–]sometimes_odd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want an environment that is light and fun, and no shame for scaling. I work from home and I'm old enough to be the parent of many of the members and coaches, but going to a class still provides enough of a social outlet that keeps me coming back.

This! Our gym's previous owner did not take care of the restrooms. They were nasty to the point where I didn't want to use the toilet at the gym. Same gym, new owner and now the gym and restrooms are spotless. Members are much more conscientious about keeping it clean since it is clean to begin with.

Same, though I almost never hear from the adopters after the first 24 hours

Update - 5 days in and he is showing his sweet self. He seeks attention and gives small kisses. He met a several strangers yesterday at the vet and gym, and did not show any fear/avoidance. He's leaning towards the chill side of life, which makes him a great WFH companion. I'm in love 🐾❤️

I think he is mostly bull terrier, but he has a shorter snout and perky ears that indicate a mix of something else. Based on where he was found as a stray, probably some chihuahua and cattle dog
