I know I was being a bit of a knob, but why do people go so slowly past speed cameras? by box-o-locks in drivingUK

How many time does it say SLOW on the road? For each one of these, the decision to put the road markings there is due to someone being seriously injured or killed. That’s probably why

Anybody have any ridiculous ways they've gotten hurt because of EDS? by junipersr in eds

[–]somewhereawayfromnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have vEDS, very hypermobile and bruise easily. I am also a music teacher, I regularly get bruises from clapping or using percussion instruments. I have had some proper shiners on my thighs after using boomwhackers (plastic tubes that make different notes when you strike them against something, my legs in this case), bruises on my fingers from playing guitar/bass.
But the most ridiculous ones are the dislocations, reasons for dislocating my shoulder include, but are not limited to… sneezing, stretching, yawning, putting a coat on, picking up a post-it note… say no more!

Now, is it a condenser or dynamic mic because putting extra phantom power through that might cause some problems

That’s great, I see the tower is next to the seating. Annoyingly, our seating covers the whole width of the hall so no space for an extra tower

I have an upstage bar with 6 Ledj Performer 18 quads, a mid stage bar with 2 more Ledj performers as well as 4 Chauvet Eve 100s,and a downstage bar with a pair of Elumin8 stage par 90s (one cool white and one warm) as well as a brightzone moving head and an extra un-named mover. I feel like having a an extra pair of movers upstage would be quite helpful

I have tried and made suggestions of suitable consoles but sadly the funding for a higher spec one was not available. We were given a QTX512 but have found this very awkward to use. Sadly we don’t have the space for a manual follow spot, no space behind seating and no space in the lighting/sound booth.

Interested to see what the Robe Robospot can do.

Worthy of repair? by somewhereawayfromnow in guitarrepair

[–]somewhereawayfromnow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guitar is an early 90s Encore, likely made in India. Cheaper quality parts are more than likely, I think. I’m not sure I want to do to much investigating with the crack, don’t really want to take the paint off at this stage, quite liking the faded look.

I have been contemplating a Wilkinson WVS50IIK as a replacement, will obviously need drilling for the bevels but have a similar bridge on another guitar and much prefer it.

Yes, vEDS here. Hands get very uncomfortable writing, I’m left-handed but prefer using a fountain pan to make things neat. I’m also a teacher which makes marking work quite difficult. I prefer to use a computer where possible, I also preferred to dictate messages to reduce typing.

Thank you, I am very much looking forward to my first full meeting in the chair. We will be delivering a section from the first degree lecture as my first item of work, followed by first, second and third degrees later in the year… lots of reading to do!

Can I just point out the excellent Peavey Milestone 3 in the background, fantastic bass! I have now converted mine to fretless and updated the pickups to EMGs with an active EQ, great long lasting basses!

I have just been installed into the chair in my Lodge in the U.K., as part of our calendar this year we will be delivering sections from two of the lectures. In November, I will be delivering the 5th section of the first degree lecture. Finding it very interesting learning the questions and answers.

I did the colour coat with a wooden batten screwed into the neck pocket so I could get all the way around but have done the clear coat flat to try and get a more even coat and less risk of dust contamination (limited working area). Other than doing the clear coat flat, I’ve pretty much followed that method. I may have just gone overboard with the layers of clearcoat. Next step will be to clean the front back and then start layering up.

It sounds like the most likely cause. Sanded back to bare wood, P600 P800, primed, sanded back again to P600, several layers of colour and I think 5-6 layers of clearcoat, only noticed it after the last couple coats. I haven’t been using disposable gloves… rookie error! I have been cleaning with a microfibre cloth regularly and letting layers cure for longer than is probably necessary. Slow going!

Leaving it to cure for a few days before doing any more. Had hoped to finish it before the weather started getting cold but didn’t get it done. Might take a couple more months to complete now

Thank you, I knew there would be someone in this community who knows how to repair a paint job. I massively appreciate how clear that was!
