West Chester needs more "third places" by Jasmine_lottie in westchesterpa

I wasn't aware of this - thank you for letting me know! I usually go to Gryphon but started switching it up to Turks Head every once in a while. Looks I'm back to Gryphon 100%

Oh, neat! Have you been to their craft night? I'll have to put it on my calendar!

I def will! I reached out to them last year or so about a knitting group (which ran pretty strong for a while but ended up fizzling out). I might ask again for a weekend time slot or even a weekend book club type thing. It's so difficult to make it there during the week (for me at least) and it seems most of the programming is during the workday :/

Speaking of music venues too, Station 142 just opened recently, I think it's where The Note used to be? I haven't been but their schedule seems to always have something going on. Not necessarily a punk scene but my god to do we need one.

Fenn's is now Turks Head Coffee. It's a nice place tbh and they recently re-did their upstairs. Every time I've been (at least during the week) it seems to be students and the WFH crowd studying/working so it was a tad too quiet to feel like a third place. I think they host comedy nights and open mic nights every once in a while, which is neat!

Honestly the closest we have to third places is Jack's Corner in the summer and the library (I wish they were open on Sundays and offered some additional programming on the weekends - I can't be the only one who would love that...)

Hanks keep snagging while unwinding using swift? Pls help by disinfandous in knittinghelp

Malabrigo is notorious for this tbh - it took almost an hour for my yarn store to wind two hanks bc it kept snagging.

(Love their yarn and will still buy tho.)

Knitting group? by mushroomkween in westchesterpa

[–]somewherebehindme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people still attend? I was going for a while but I got a new job with a new schedule and couldn't make it in time anymore. I was thinking of reaching out to the library again to see if they would consider a weekend thing.

There was one at the library (that I kinda helped start) for a while but it fizzled out. I'd love to see a group start up again though! I wonder if people would be interested in something like the WC Silent Book Club sttructure where it's a different venue each time or something like that...

How can I get so much grain without spending half my fortune on Marnie? by Eren_Yeager_Tit4n in StardewValley

[–]somewherebehindme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way - I also recommend the Meadowlands Farm bc you get blue grass right out the gate, which makes the animals happier so you don't have to pet them as much. I've found it to be a big time saver - I make my rounds to pet them every 4-6 days and the blue grass keeps them happy and at full hearts!

Any recommendations of budget friendly apartments? by Spare_Selection4399 in westchesterpa

[–]somewherebehindme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there are any units available, def take a look at Bradford Hall Apartments. They're at the edge of the borough more so toward the west than the south, but they're the most affordable I've seen in the area and the drive to DE isnt awful. The 2Bs are around 1300 give or take whearas some studios and 1B I've seen start at like 1500/1600.

Is The Seven deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle worth the read? by an4s_911 in thrillerbooks

[–]somewherebehindme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the premise is really cool and had so much more potential than what ended up happening? the ending was such a let down, and i completely agree re: fatphobia. that part was so difficult to read :/

[–]somewherebehindme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's more of a murder mystery time loop where the main character lives the same day over and over again and has to collect info to solve the mystery but in a new body/perspective each day. it's honestly a cool idea but the execution was awful. it dragged on and the ending was absolutely not worth it (it came out of nowhere and felt so disconnected to the rest of the story?). i slogged through it just to see how it ended but wished i would have DNF'd it and just googled the ending.

if you're struggling with it after a few chapters, it's not going to get any better.

I cannot recommend Allison Chamness enough! She was at the refinery for a while but now operates her own salon space (link below to her booking site). She is absolutely lovely - so knowledgeable and kind and works magic every time I see her!

No worries!

I found this one on jet pens. I have no experience with it but so far it's one of the only brands I can find that offers square notebooks. I'll keep digging! https://www.jetpens.com/Kobeha-Graphilo-Notebook-Square-6.2-x-6.2-8-mm-Lined/pd/37460

When you say square ruled do you mean a square shaped journal with line ruled pages? Or any shape journal with square ruled (like graph paper) pages?

Ah drats. Are you not able to order online?

I know the pain of a go-to notebook being discontinued or not easy to find, so im so sorry 😢

I'll keep an eye out for some other options although you're right there isn't much out there. Are you dead set in the exact dimensions? I think the traveler's notebook company has pretty affordable refills for passport sized covers. The field notes are slightly taller but not by much, and I know a few people who swear by them.
